When you have a month to prepare for a team from the SEC or BIG 12 and you have all your players rested from mediocre competition the second half of your season compared to the SEC/Big 12 team whose players were beaten up the second half of the season and anything can and does happen.

 

Which is Exhibit A in the need for a playoff.

Not the "statement" the Broncos were hoping for. Tulsa is a pretty decent team though.

And Boise got a few key calls too. I thought the Tulsa coach was going to stroke out over a couple late in the game. He really worked the officials over. The announcers said they hoped no one could read lips.:lol:

Don't we read these same comments every season around week 7? Posters brashly state that "Team X" will get beat handily in a BCS bowl. And then "Team X" goes out and wins - Boise over Oklahoma in 2006, Utah over Alabama in 2008. Of course then we look to make excuses as to why Oklahoma or Alabama didn't play well (their heads weren't in the game, didn't want to be there).

 

My question is, why do we have to make a team-defining statement after watching one game on October 14? Most posters have likely now seen Boise twice, in wins over Oregon and Tulsa. But after two viewings we are prepared to make a final decision on what a team's future (no national championship) should be? There are eight weekends of football remaining and a million things could happen. Let's not write anybody off just yet.

Funny how you gloss over the complete beat down Hawaii took at the hands of Georgia. The Utah win last year is the only convincing win of the 3. Boise over OU in 2006 was a great game but they play 10 times and OU wins 9 of them. It took Boise OT and every trick play in the book to win that game.

Utah with Urban Meyer and Alex Smith manhandled Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl. Pitt was not very good and would have been lucky to win more than a couple against the Utes that season. That Utah team was better than last season's team, imo.

I thought about that game after I hit the submit button. Utah that year was very good and had the #1 pick in the draft. Pitt that year was in a BCS game by default. They happened to win the Big East and that year winning the big east is like being the skinniest kid at fat camp. That was after Miami, VT, and BC vacated and before UL & Cinn came in.

I agree. It took a huge OU comeback just to get back in the game if we want to get down to details. OU also had a guy named Adrian Peterson... anyone ever heard of him?

They absolutely will get to a BCS bowl if they finish undefeated. Since they've added that fifth bowl, at least one team has gotten in from outside the power 6 conferences. It's a trendy pick each time, and they'll be there if they don't lose.

 

I don't even know about that. I think TCU could end up stealing their spot. TCU has a much more impressive schedule, and the fact that they beat Boise last year in the bowl will be on people's minds. I think they have a shot to go undefeated and still miss the BCS. They will probably make it, but there are some scenarios where they could be left out, IMO.

I don't think there is any way to prove that yet. Believe me I love when the non-BCS team gets drilled like Hawaii did by Georgia. I just see this Boise team as better than most... I hope I'm wrong and they get drilled, but I think they can play with any team not named Florida or Alabama.

If TCU goes into BYU and wins, and OU wins out, I think TCU moves ahead of them.
