The Celtics window is closing fast, but I think they've got enough left in the tank. A lot of it is up to Ray Allen, more so than KG and/or Rasheed. The Magic were absolutely exploited last year. Dwight Howard is a beast, but he's limited offensively when you compare him to the other dominant centers in the game.

I think LA is more likely to win 72 games. With Artest in the lineup and if Bynum can stay healthy, this could be the best team they've had in the last three years. I also think a summer off for Kobe will help tremendously. He looked worn down in the playoffs last year. Plus, LA seems like a team built more for the regular season. They can obviously win in the playoffs (last year was proof of that), but they're not the physical, hard nosed defensive kind of team that thrives in playoff basketball...they look better during the regular season to me. All that said, I don't see them doing it either.
October 15, 200916 yr 72 is almost impossible in this day and age of basketball. The only reason Jordan and the Bulls did it was because every single night Jordan showed up and made his team play like it was game seven of the Finals. It takes that kind of hunger and focus to win that many games. There are a handful of teams in the league who are talented enough to do so, but in no way it happens because some games guys tend to take it easy. You cannot do thay if you expect to be like the Bulls.

All that said, I don't see them doing it either. I would say the Celtics have the better chance than the Lakers simply because of the depth of quality teams in the two Conferences. The Lakers will have to bring it 100% in almost every night playing in their Conference while the Celtics should have some games that the starters may not see the court in the 4th quarter and can rest.

October 24, 200916 yr Author Wow... I would have guessed around 60. That's what I thought. I feel pretty good about the over at 56 1/2, as long as they stay relatively healthy. The Bulls over/under is ridiculously low. 40 1/2. Knicks are 31 1/2. I took the over on both of them, too.
October 25, 200916 yr I agree with Phil Jackson's sentiments that it will be very difficult for a coastal team to ever win 72 games. Can someone elaborate on this. I think I understand that team is on the coast but is it because of travel or what the reason why they won't win that many games?
October 25, 200916 yr I think Sheed stands a better chance of getting 72 technicals before Boston or anyone for that matter wins 72 games in a season. Thanks to the resurgence of the NBA there is a great deal of parody so i doesn't matter if your playing the Kings or Thunder, theres still a chance you don't win, especially if your looking ahead or not totally focused.

Yes, it has to do with travel. The thought is the long travel times and switching of time zones is too much to handle over the long haul.
