Jim Schue Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Limbaugh already down one vote While a part of me would like to see him get the Rams just to give me a new reason to laugh when he says something stupid, the other part of me hopes his bid goes down in massive flames, because it couldn't happen to a better guy.
HammerTime Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I don't get why everyone is so against this. He has the money and if they allow him to do it what is the big deal really? He can't be much worse. Who are we to tell him what to do with the money.

Considering the majority of the players in the NFL are black, you don't see any past comments that might make them pause a bit before agreeing to him being their boss? Plus, given the NFL's deep aversion to what figures to be a Marge Schott-type figure at owner, I don't see any way the owners' group approves it.

If he is the ones signing their big checks every week I don't think it would be that huge of an issue. I don't think the owners will let it happen anyway so it probably doesn't matter.
gchs_uk9 Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 If he is the ones signing their big checks every week I don't think it would be that huge of an issue. There are 31 other owners that can sign checks. Why would anyone choose (i.e., free agents) to play in St. Louis? The franchise is already dying. Limbaugh coming on board would simply kill it even quicker.

In a league that allows ANY player the second, third, and sometimes fourth chance for much worse offenses...DUI, domestic violence, unlawfully discharging a weapon, felony dog fighting...etc; wants to deny someone of owning a team because of some disparaging comments. No one will ever convince me that those are even in the same ballpark. One could assume that the same players that are against Limbaugh owning a team are the players fully supporting the reinstatement of criminals...regularly.

I guess the argument can be made the NFL should hold their ownership to a higher standard. But in a league (and world) of multiple chances, Rush is being told no because he is a lightening rod and deemed a racist by many. I am not a fan of Rush, heck I have not listened to the guy in 15+ years besides snippets heard on BGP and other outlets. I still believe the whole Donovan McNabb thing was blown way out of proportion and it was taken out of context.
stickymitts Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 For the record, besides when he was on ESPN I have never heard Rush Limbaugh. Not a fan.
bugatti Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 For the record, besides when he was on ESPN I have never heard Rush Limbaugh. Not a fan. I would say that is the case for the majority of the players in the NFL. Fairly or unfairly he was labeled a racist due to his Donovan McNabb comment and there is a ground swell of support from players not to play for him because of it. How long did he work for ESPN, 1 month?

He flat-out said, the NFL and the media (in that case, the network he worked for, ESPN, and others) were desirous of seeing a black QB succeed, that McNabb was overrated as a result. What other context could you see that in?
pigman Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 One comment has labled him a racist. Come on now.

What other context could you see that in? There is no other context than what you said. However, the perception at the time was that Rush was saying since McNabb is black, he is not very good and overrated. That was not the case. I remember the incident well because I am an Eagles fan and fan of McNabb. Donovan had just come off two horrible games to start the season. Jamarcus Russell type horrendous games. Rush made the comments and was gone the next week. Also remember this is a time when McNabb was early in his career and nowhere near the level he is right now. He is erratic now but a lot more erratic back then. His comments at the time were not as off base as many like to portray. That is all I am saying.
The Scribe Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Will most of the Rams plays be run to the right?
