I woke up this morning and was surprised to hear that Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

My observations:

1. You should be required to accomplish something tangible to get the award.

2. I knew that the prize reflected European political views, this just reinforces my already firm belief.

3. Giving the award to Obama is also a slap at George Bush.

4. While receiving this award is a poltical boost now, in the long term it could be a negative if Obama fails to live up to expectations that have been raised by receiving this award.

He was inaugurated on January 20th and nominations were due by February 1st. So I’m assuming he won based on popularity, potential, or something else because I can’t seem to recall any accomplishments of this magnitude during his first ten days in office.

You mean NBC, supposed to be the most biased pro-Obama network out there, actually ran an objective piece?

Wow ... I guess the world is coming to an end.

Actually I think CBS is worse.:D

Let's be honest, that is really all it was. The "something else" was a referendum of Bush. Have they come out and said who nominated him?

For some reason the Nobel Foundation website won’t come up, I guess there’s a few other people trying to research the requirements for the prize too. Anyway from Wikipedia:

“The Nobel Peace Prize is one of five Nobel Prizes bequeathed by the Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel. According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
