October 4, 200917 yr Author ^^^ You're correct. The thread I saw it under had AP on it, so I didn't really pay attention to anything other than the rankings. My mistake.

October 4, 200917 yr Just curious....how does Cincinnati leapfrog Ohio State? Both teams won this past week, and both did it by handedly beating inferior opponents, so you'd think there would'nt be any "style" points handed out that would make the difference. And with us only being halfway through the season, it's not like there's a push for an undefeated team being ranked higher than a team with one loss. Which leaves????? Not saying that Cincinnati might not be one spot better than OSU right now...but just trying to figure out the change in the poll. Any thoughts?

I know this doesn't make much sense, and it may not be the reason behind it, but ESPN is really talking up Cincy right now. A lot of people are talking about them possibly being able to run the table and be undefeated at the end of the year. Maybe, just maybe, some of these AP voters are listening to this and thinking that they need to push Cincy up in the polls based on the chatter going on during these shows like Game Day, etc. Just a guess.:idunno:

UC really has had a pretty favorable schedule in my opinion. Oregon State on the road is a good win but I really do not think they will be pushed until West Virginia but even their D is shaky. USF will come to play but with no Grothe I think UC takes this game. UC could run the table if they don't have any breakdowns. They have the better offense and OSU has the better D, in my opinion O gains more style points. I would love to see them play in a bowl game.

As UC started to quickly climb in the polls there were still a decent number of AP voters that were leaving them near the bottom of the poll or for some on the outside looking in. This week those people jumped UC up pretty much across the board and it gave them a big jump in the overall points. OSU gained votes over last week, but UC gained quite a bit more from those changed perceptions....

Highly unlikely, but still not impossible at this point. :thumb:
October 5, 200917 yr Thanks guys! All of them are really valid points. I guess the thing that ultimately is confusing to me is what suddenly made someone think THIS week UC is a spot better than OSU...(again, not saying that they may not be!!)...when everything on the field in their games this past weekend, seemed to be equal. And, all things considered equal, then why would the status quo (rankings) change?
October 5, 200917 yr I just don't understand how USC can be ranked 7th, after losing to Washington. Miami loses to Va Tech then beats Oklahoma and are still not in the top 10. Ole Miss loses to a good South Carolina team on the road and goes from 4th to 20th. It just doesn't make sense to me how USC can be a top 10 team.
