Yes it matters it's bragging rights for one, and it will secure a home playoff game. How were those bragging rights for you last year when Crittenden County beat you twice! Including a playoff win to send you packing for basketball? It was pretty nice for us last year to do that to Fairview. And I would like to see it happen again!

Crap, you're right. Hey everyone close this one down, hey Dennis don't waste anymore paint on the field, it doesn't matter. Someone call Fairview, tell them they don't have to come and play, it's meaningless. Last person out please turn the lights off.

 

No, wait a minute, I think the coaches are there to mold young men into productive, self-motivated, self-starting young adults. Yes, I'm sure I read that somewhere, they are supposed to teach these young men to overcome adversity, to prepare for the unexpected, to be good sports win or lose. Yep, I'm almost sure that more is taught in the game of football then to quit when you don't think you can win. I am pretty sure most of what is learned on the football field has nothing to do with football at all, it is about life.

 

Well, I guess we will go ahead and play this game after all. Someone turn the light back on, tell Dennis to paint until his heart is content. Someone call Fairview back and tell them they might as well go ahead and come over tomorrow.

If im correct, he free handed the outline by looking at the design on a hat, then filled it in from there. He's been painting Raceland's field for around 9 years. He did some really neat things back when I played. But this is his best yet. They have it covered with a tarp right now to keep the rain off. So at least it will look nice when everyone arrives. Although I don't think it will stay that way for long tommorrow night.

We must be only as good as some of the western teams such as Mayfield and Crittenden Co.. We just arn't over rated.

With your logic and with your screenname, I am only assuming that you have notified Mitch Barnhardt, that since UK's football team is not good enough to contend in the SEC or any other big conference for that matter... that they should just not play any more big games. BECAUSE IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY BEAT MIAMI (OHIO). Lord knows it wouldn't be Miami (Fla.).This is a District game and a rival game and it DOES matter who wins. Raceland was better than LCA last year and look what happened in Round 3 of the playoffs.

I agree, every game matters. All high school football players and coaches work their tails off all offseason and during the season for one thing. To win on Friday nights, this game matters and so does every game.

I agree, every game matters. All high school football players and coaches work their tails off all offseason and during the season for one thing. To win on Friday nights, this game matters and so does every game.

 

I agree. It's all about the path, not the prize (to steal John Calipari's signature quote). If the only thing that mattered was winning the state championship, then all of the northeastern Kentucky teams might as well fold it up this season. Heck, for that matter, all but about 10 or 12 teams in the state might as well fold it up.

 

It's pretty clear that Raceland or Fairview are long shots against LCA this year, Russell is a long shot against Mason and Belfry, Lawrence probably isn't on the level of Bell County, and Ashland's likely not going to beat nationally ranked Highlands, but the challenge is to get into those games and give yourself a chance. To me, that's exciting enough and that's what each of these teams should be striving for, to make the most out of what they've got.

 

If your team ultimately wins the whole thing, then I really feel the greatest satisfaction isn't in posing for pictures on the field with the trophy for a few brief moments before they usher you off the field in time for the next game to be played. After all, then people's minds immediately move to the question of whether you can do it again next year!

 

I think the greatest satisfaction comes from the many moments it took to get there and experiencing the highs and lows along the way with your teammates, coaches, and fans. The feeling of knowing you gave it your all and laid everything you had out there for all to see. If it was good enough to beat everybody, then great. If not, then so what? To me, this is why high school sports are played and so fun to watch, not just for who wins and loses in the end.
