October 1, 200917 yr :thumb::thumb: Exactly. I wouldn't take anything for my mutt!!!! He looks like a cross between a Holstein Cow and a Dust Mop, but the best dog ever!!! Most of the time. I agree! I'm contemplating getting another dog to be a companion to my dog. I will either visit the shelter, or go through the Shamrock Foundation.
October 1, 200917 yr Yorkie's - can be yappy and mean...they also have been known to bite. The following is from dogbreedinfo.com: They are recommended for older, considerate children, simply because they are so small, most people allow them to get away with behaviors no dog should display. This changes the dogs temperament, as the dog starts to take over the house. Yorkies who become demanding and dependant appearing to need a lot of human attention and/or developing jealous behaviors, become snappish if surprised, frightened or over-teased, have owners who need to rethink how they are treating the dog. Dachshunds - Very loving and like to cuddle, but also VERY VERY VERY YAPPY! My sister has one and it is CONSTANTLY yapping at something. One of my friends has one.....it is also constantly yapping at something. The following also from dogbreedinfo.com: These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size), and the dog needs to be told barking obsessively is an unwanted behavior. This breed has an instinct to dig. Therefore, I recommend the Pug. I am a Pug owner and the only problem I've run into with Pugs is that they don't like to have their nails clipped. Oh, and they snore, but so do I, so what's it matter? But how can you pass up a little guy like this? ...and as a baby... Edited October 1, 200917 yr by Aiden Seamus

October 1, 200917 yr Also, almost any purebred, small-breed puppy you're going to find will be around $200-$400. Never, ever, ever, buy a puppy from a pet shop, find a breeder. Our latest Pug was $350 from a breeder in Lawrenceburg, but she does not have any litters right now. Also, consider rescuing from a shelter. There is a wonderful Pug rescue in Louisville called Kentuckiana Pug Rescue. Their website is http://www.kentuckianapugs.com Their dogs range in price. $125 for pug mixes, $225 for senior pugs (pugs that are 7+ years old), $275 for adult pugs (1 year to 7 years old), and $325 for pug puppies (8 weeks to 1 year old). Don't let the word senior keep you away from adopting either. We adopted a "senior" pug who was 12 when we got him and he lived to be 16 years old. He was the best dog I've ever had. Here is a list of their adoptable pugs: http://www.kentuckianapugs.com/adoptablepugs.htm I also saw where the OP said they have a boxer. Pugs are fairly active when they are younger. Mine is about a year old and when we go to the dog park he plays in the "big dog" park with the boxers, retrievers, pit bulls, etc. He's built like a tank and has a better time playing with those dogs rather than the little "floof balls" in the small dog section. Up until 1 year pugs will be pretty active like any other puppy. They stay fairly active until they hit about age 2. At this point they start to slow down a little bit, sleeping sometimes 14 or more hours a day. This is the time when you want to start watching what they eat. Pugs are notorious overeaters.
October 1, 200917 yr I have a miniature dachshund and I love him. He's been very hard to house break though...not sure if anyone else has that problem with their wiener dog. He is VERY cuddly though. He loves nothing more than to climb on the couch and crawl under a cover and sleep . My mini is 4 months old and we have him trained. My second weiner I haven't saw a dog with a personality close to these.
October 1, 200917 yr We lost are first Daschund 6 months ago to cancer. He was 14 years old and really thought he was a person. He was a regular and weighed 18 pounds. He barked alot but I think he was talking to us. Loved to eat, always would clean his plate and want more. The sweetest most loving boy you would ever see. We got a mini two months ago they are suppose to be around 10 pounds. This ones personality is completely different from my previous. As of right now he don't bark at nothing. He will eat till he's full then leave it. My wife and I both work during the day and we keep him in a small bathroom during that time. For the most part he is trained. Last night he got upset with us cause we took his harness away from him. He was trying to destroy it (he don't like it). He walked over right in front of us both tinkled a little and took of running ! He knew what he was doing. The personality of these dogs is nothing like I've had. Growing up we had a poodle, 3 black Labs, 5 beagles. If you like PM me your e-mail and I'll send you a few pictures.
October 1, 200917 yr I love the Dachshunds for a small dog. My mom has 2 right now and she had a 3rd before for these 2, but she had to be put down at about 16 years old. I bought my ex gf a mini and she LOVES that dog. I highly recommend them.
October 1, 200917 yr Can't go wrong with one of these: Wonderful family dog. Great with kids. http://goldenretrieverbreeders.org/ Later.
October 1, 200917 yr I had a West Highland Terriar and loved it. Very friendly, very good with children, sleeps a lot, but is very hyper and likes to play when it is awake.
October 1, 200917 yr We have a 9 month old Boston Terrier and she's been awesome. She loves to play toss and tug of war, she does not shed very much and she loves people.
October 1, 200917 yr Although I have nothing against hunting, I think hunting puppies goes a bit too far.
October 1, 200917 yr We have a Shihtzu and I can't imagine how a dog could be any friendlier or better with kids than ours. I also have to give a big thumbs up to Pugs. My friend in Etown has one and it is awesome. His name is wheezy and the name certainly fits.

Awesome family dogs, get along great with other dogs, not yappy at all, plus they do not shed.
