October 2, 200916 yr Please check out shelters and rescues. You might be suprised at what you will find. I have to agree. Mixed breed dogs are often the best. No inbreeding to worry about. I love my mutt!
October 2, 200916 yr Author We found one. She is a 8 week old Maltese. She is precious. We named her Heidi. I will post pictures soon. We love her all ready. Toby our boxer, not so much lol.

You can get a mutt at a shelter for $35-$85 and that will include shots, vet check, plus spay/neuter. You can get a mutt with "poo" in the name on Craigslist for $200-$400. That's the point I was trying to make. A lot of so-called breeders are trying to make a hefty buck off of mutts, when you could better serve the community by adopting from a shelter.

October 3, 200916 yr I second the Shih Tzu recommendation. Awesome family dogs, get along great with other dogs, not yappy at all, plus they do not shed. I'm actually getting a Shih Tzu as a surprise gift for my wife today.

She went with me to get her, so she now thinks the dog is hers and no one elses lol. The kids fight over her non stop but she is a trooper. Our boxer is so intrigued by her. She lets him know when she has had enough though.
October 4, 200916 yr I haven't read all the posts, but let me make these 2 observations: 1) We adopted a Labrador mix from the Kenton Co Animal shelter over 11 years ago this past August. He is in the twilight of his life, but he has been the best dog ever! 2) 6 1/2 years ago my wife purchased a purebred Min Pin (Miniature Pinscher) from a local family who were going to give the puppy to the shelter. This dog is a female and her and my wife have the closest relationship an animal and human can have. The rest of the family on the other hand are just around for the ride with this dog. The dog runs the house. Suggestions - Don't own a Min Pin!:thumb:

Many "poo" breeders have health clearances, you know the parents of the dog, and so on.
