A few things with the bolded part. You will see here in a few years that all these schools will have struggles with their feeder programs. With all these schools getting Middle School teams, I doubt you will see a Senior youth football league anymore here in the next few years. So that is going to be problems all small schools and even Bellevue. These schools are going to be forced to start middle school teams to, or all these small schools might be in trouble.

Brossart has a middle school team that is 40 strong!

I don't think it should be the small school that struggle with senior feeder programs because they don't have Jr high teams that are taking away the seventh and eighth graders. Does Ludlow have a Jr. High team?

 

Remember I wasn't there, but listened to the call on the internet: why do I think Brossart should have beaten Ludlow?

 

Reason 1) KO Return and 94 yard run only scores for Ludlow in the 1st half and that was fairly well into the game after Brossart was up 14. I think with a full week of practice special teams and defense don't let those happen.

 

Reason 2) Brossart falls apart in 2nd half. Ashcraft dominates over a Stang defense that was depleted - recovery from illness, havent played in weeks, lack of a full week of practice, pick your reason.

 

Reason 3) Bowman is best player on that field IMO. From what I could tell from the call he was doing 75% of the work out there it seemed like. Give him more support on both sides, different game.

 

 

These 3 reasons being said, I know Ludlow was missing some key players but I think you give Brossart just a game and some more practice since that third game of the season and they win this game.

 

Relating this all back to the thread at hand, take those three reasons, multiply their influence by ten because of the short week, and add a better opponent and youre looking at an ugly game.

 

1. No one has answered my question yet. Did Brossart get to practice on Saturday and Sunday? If so I would be willing to bet they practiced a little longer than normal also.

 

2. If that was going to affect there play by not having a full week to prepare. Then which half do you think it would effect the most? It would be the first half correct? Which half did Brossart play its best ball? It was the first half, there offense was moving the ball pretty well all first half. Their defense was playing very good all first half. Also what big changes do anyone really make on special teams during the week? I am pretty sure they practiced that on saturday and sunday too, probably the same amount that goes with it during the week. It just came down to they didn't make a play to stop them, I doubt them having a full week of practice changes that. The same goes with the 94 yard touchdown run by Ludlow. I mean their defense did good that whole half, so obviously on that one play they didnt do their jobs and tackle. I mean its 94 yards, there is no reason for that to happen anyways. So once again I really doubt a full week of practice changes that.

So basically Brossart in that first half dominated except for two plays, so not having a full week of practice didn't change much. Now in the second half the preparation during the week really don't matter anymore, both teams know what the other has. It comes down to adjustments, which Brossart had the same amount of time at half time as Ludlow to make adjustments. Ludlow just made the better adjustments, and in the second half had the offense working, and completely shut down Brossart. The second half of the game had nothing to do with what happened during the week, it has to deal with what happened at half time. As mentioned the excuse of being sick is not a good one, considering Ludlow had some key players as well sick.

 

3. Ludlow won 35 to 14. That really is not that close in the end, and so I mean if it was a game that went down to the wire then I could understand you saying Brossart could have won if things were different. However Ludlow won by 21 and scored 35 unanswered points, and honestly if it wasn't for a few mistakes Ludlow could have won the game by even more than that. The better team won that game plain and simple. Just like the better team will win this game in Bellevue, and it probably will be by even more.

Ludlow I believe has six 8th graders playing freshman this year. Ludlow had many kids who played on their junior youth league team last year, decide they wanted to go play middle school football this year instead of seniors. Dayton also was hurting very much for numbers at the senior level in youth football. The Raiders organization was hurting for numbers this year. The spartans don't have nearly as much as normal because of the Middle Schools. South Kenton is going to continue losing kids to Middle School teams, even Bellevue is going to eventually have kids deciding to play Middle School instead. Your going to have a lot of teams struggle to field teams, and that would eventually lead to the end of the senior youth league. It would be hard to do when you only have 5 or 6 teams in it. It really don't help that schools can have Middle School programs when they don't even have a Middle School. However that is something that is a whole other subject.

Rice neutralized Bowman. He was a monster on defense, and literally in on every mid-field tackle. I think I was quite clear about that if you listened to the Brossart broadcast team's coverage of the game.

 

Brossart did practice on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday's practice was cited as one of our best of the season. Early on our timing and execution was near-perfect, showing no rust from the five day layoff prior to the weekend.

 

Brossart saw much better pass-coverage from Ludlow than we have to date. This relegated us pretty much to a running ballclub in the second half, and there was no way we were coming back once we were down a pair of touchdowns without an effective passing game.

 

I tried very hard, and think I succeeded, in not resorting to excuses of sickness and the flu layoff as the reason for our loss. We were badly outplayed in the second half. I mentioned once that our defense was spending an inordinate amount of time on the field in the second half, and my partner very accurately stated that our defense is also our offense. He's right! I do believe that Ludlow wore us down, and once we fell behind were in no physical condition, nor did we have the tricks or tools to orchestrate a comeback.

 

Our coaches work with our kids every day (most of the time). They know what we are capable of and how we stack up with our opponents. It's easy to see from Coach Reinhart's post-game comments that he felt that this was a winnable game that got away. Perhaps under normal circumstances we could have better represented ourselves, but on this night I have to credit the Ludlow Panthers for being the better team - especially in the second half.

I think Bellevue is a 35 point favorite in the best of Mustang circumstances. Saying that, listening to the game last night it was evident the Stangs were exhausted in the second half against a team I think they should have beaten. No way they have the legs to put up a fight on Friday after playing a tough loss Monday, missing a week of practice, and still have players getting their wind back after being ill. Bellevue by whatever amount they choose.

But I stick by what I said about Brossart and Beechwood. Might be a while before they pull off a win against the Tigers, but they'll be the next big Beechwood rivalry (like NewCath before they moved up.) And it's not far down the road.

To think your going to challenge a program like Beechwood or for that matter Bellevue on a regular basis any time in the near future is just ridiculous. Tradition and hard work is not something you buy it has to be earned and not over night it takes a long time. I was going to be nice and not predict a score but just to bring you down to earth a little:
