Wont be much of a game. The weak class A district may hurt Bellevue and Beeechwood come playoff time. Both have had tough games up to this point but now must play district games against opponents that wont make them any better. And when they still have their first team in in the second half I don't want to hear they are running the score up. You have to play the guys that are going to win for you in the playoffs. Your first team needs to play into the Fourth quarter to get into game shape. Just because the score is lopsided it doesn't mean you are running the score up.

I don't think this district is weak if you compare it with other 1A districts. Bellevue and Beechwood will end the season in the top 10 in 1A. Currently Ludlow, Brossart and Bellevue are in the top 15 in 1A by record. This is probably one of the better 1A districts in the state. Give Brossart and Walton a couple of more years of building in the direction they are headed, and this will probably be the toughest district in 1A in the state.

At one time I would have agreed with you, however with the addition of WV and BB and Dayton being as down as they are I'm afraid the district is weak this year. I do think in a couple of years the new teams will be up to the challenge and once again we will be the toughest district in the state. I don't see Dayton's program getting any better for quite some time. The feeder program up there hasn't had a competitive team for some time now. Beechwood is always going to be Beechwood, they work very hard and have great tradition they will always be one of the top teams in class A. Bellevue is a land locked community of one square mile, it is what it is every couple of years they will give Beechwood a run for their money. WV has the potential to grow and as they improve and their enrollment climes they will have to move up in class. BB being a catholic school in a good football environment has all the potential in the world to become a very good football team year in and year out. Ludlow is also struggling keep their feeder program alive the future isn't looking good for them either if it doesn't get straightened out soon.

I think Bellevue is a 35 point favorite in the best of Mustang circumstances. Saying that, listening to the game last night it was evident the Stangs were exhausted in the second half against a team I think they should have beaten. No way they have the legs to put up a fight on Friday after playing a tough loss Monday, missing a week of practice, and still have players getting their wind back after being ill. Bellevue by whatever amount they choose.

A few things with the bolded part. You will see here in a few years that all these schools will have struggles with their feeder programs. With all these schools getting Middle School teams, I doubt you will see a Senior youth football league anymore here in the next few years. So that is going to be problems all small schools and even Bellevue. These schools are going to be forced to start middle school teams to, or all these small schools might be in trouble.

Now as far the district. If you look around the state, this district is probably still one of the toughest 1A districts in the State. Last year the district should have had 3 teams making to the second round of the playoffs, if Bellevue didn't get upset in the 1st round by a lower seeded team. Beechwood and Ludlow as a 3 seed was able to win their games. I wouldn't be suprised to see this district actually get 3 teams again this year in the second round. I mean yeah this district is not a powerhouse like it was 4 years ago when NCC and Holy Cross was still in it. However just because they are gone, don't let it fool you into thinking its weak now. I mean if you compare it to what it was before, yeah it is weak. However when it comes to comparing to other 1A districts its still one of the better ones in 1A.

May I ask why Brossart should have beaten Ludlow. I mean surely you don't think that since they were undefeated by beating pretty weak teams, that they should have won do you? Brossart is starting to get their program going in the right direction, because they are beating these weaker teams they were losing to now. However as we will see in district they might at best only win one game. I mean Ludlow showed that they definitely were the better team, so I don't see where you get that Brossart should have beaten Ludlow.

However you are right about Bellevue being big favorites. Bellevue should win this game rather easily.

Remember I wasn't there, but listened to the call on the internet: why do I think Brossart should have beaten Ludlow?

Reason 1) KO Return and 94 yard run only scores for Ludlow in the 1st half and that was fairly well into the game after Brossart was up 14. I think with a full week of practice special teams and defense don't let those happen.

Reason 2) Brossart falls apart in 2nd half. Ashcraft dominates over a Stang defense that was depleted - recovery from illness, havent played in weeks, lack of a full week of practice, pick your reason.

Reason 3) Bowman is best player on that field IMO. From what I could tell from the call he was doing 75% of the work out there it seemed like. Give him more support on both sides, different game.

These 3 reasons being said, I know Ludlow was missing some key players but I think you give Brossart just a game and some more practice since that third game of the season and they win this game.

Relating this all back to the thread at hand, take those three reasons, multiply their influence by ten because of the short week, and add a better opponent and youre looking at an ugly game.

Ludlow had several youngsters starting due to illness as well. Also, Drew Rice was the best player on the field without question.

He actually popped in my mind as I made that statement, but we'll have to agree to disagree. No doubt Rice is one of best LBs in NKY, but I think Bowman does more both ways IMO.

And yes, both sides were hit by illness so I'm trying to stress the % of sick, the loss of practice time, and the layoff between games more than the actual physical impact.

I don't think it should be the small school that struggle with senior feeder programs because they don't have Jr high teams that are taking away the seventh and eighth graders. Does Ludlow have a Jr. High team?
