  2. When I first read this post, it really ticked me off. I played on one of those Holmes teams of old and we took our lumps but we were a playoff contender every other year; in a district with Fort Thomas Highlands and Park Hills Catholic nonetheless. But then I thought about it some more and I guess we had our problems. We tended to get down when scored on rapidly, we played jerseys, and my last two years we were terribly susceptible to the power game (sometimes two LBs just aren’t enough). I haven’t seen Holmes play this year, I was happy to hear they beat Lloyd. Now admittedly I have strong connections to both schools, but I am going to lay out how I think it is conceivable that Bellevue could win this game. If I were coaching Bellevue, I would play a power game and control the clock. If Bellevue can execute this type of game plan (lord knows they have the coach and the personnel) then I would say their chances go up precipitously. The secret will be not letting the Bulldogs score early and not to get into a shoot out with them. If it goes this way I can see Bellevue winning if not I think it could be Dawgs all the way. That being said; my inner optimist will take the Tigers in a close one: Bellevue 21 Covington Holmes 14
  3. 7 Lexington Catholic 5 Dixie Heights 3 Boone County 2 Pendleton County 1 Holmes TB Lexington Catholic
  4. After watching the Tigers/Indians game last week I think this week comes down to two factors for Bellevue: blocking and tackling. If the Tigers can block effectively during all four quarters (instead of one) they will be much more likely to score with some sort of frequency. As for the Tackling issue; the real question is where to begin? The only person moving forward on a run play last week was the safety (Buckler). LB and DL play really left something to be desired. If these two major difficulties are corrected this week, I see the tigers coming away with this one in a big way: Tigers: 33 Wildcats: 13
  5. The thing I can't figure is why an unranked 2A School with two good players is so overwhelmingly better than the seventh ranked (according the highly fallible Herald Leader Rankings) 1A school in the state. I'm not saying Holy Cross isn't talented, but it seems like everyone is willing to just give this game to them without paying much attention to the improvements in Bellevue’s overall game from last year. An overall improvement in the front both defensively and offensively; what sounds like more stable play from the quarterback; and an already very effective running game. These kids are no clown shoes. These Tigers seem ready to me, and if it is anything like usual there will be chip on their collective shoulder. Tigers 29 Indians 21
  6. 7 Betsy Lane 5 Park Hills Catholic 3 Dixie Heights 2 Bellevue 1 Gallatin County TB) Gallatin County
  7. Put his name where Elliot is and from there down he could replace ANY of them.
  8. Agreed. All he has done during his time at Bellevue is put up solid numbers yet people still knock him year in and year out. One word fits this guy. Heart.
  9. What a great win for the coaches, the kids, and the program in general. Congrats Pioneers. Hope those jerseys get cleaned this week.
  10. With Bellevue's tough new defensive set, and a clock controlling offense... I'll take Bellevue by two scores. Tigers 28 Panthers 7
  11. Bellevue, Ludlow, and Dayton participated in a freshman-sophomore league with Walton-Verona and Bracken Co and Bishop Brossart I believe. This allowed them to play both freshman and sophomores and let them have a shot at their own championship. I believe this league will be back next year.:thumb:
  12. In a not so shocking turn of events I’ll take Bellevue in this one. 20-14
  13. The question is… Has either teams really played in a difficult game with this much tension? Answer NO. MY POINT IS that both teams haven’t really faced that much opposition... 300 yards and what's the score? I would assume that NCC can put up tons of yards, but can they score in a big game against a good team when they don't hand them the ball on the 10 yard line? Let’s face facts they’ve not really been a drive type team, and Bellevue controls the ball.
  14. Yes I do think it is a bad game because it gives NCC an instant advantage as far as getting players out of the Bellevue community. Yes the gate is great, but the game is not, especially when it is a deciding factor in whether or not a prospective student athlete goes to NCC. I know people will maintain family loyalty, but I do think with a winning program and improved schools in Bellevue that some families would decide to keep the tuition money, and send their kids to a good public school… e.g. Ft. Thomas.
  15. As stupid of a game as this is for Bellevue to be playing… who scheduled this game it doesn’t benefit them at all! But that won’t stop me from putting in my two cents worth. Alright the thing to think about is: Who have they played? NCC: Simon Kenton (lost a lot of seniors… turned the ball over in their own red zone like five times); Park Hills Catholic (lost everyone that’s why their coach left); Ryle (formerly a three man team now a one man showcase). Bellevue: Newport (Supposed to be pretty good, obviously experiencing some problems); Paris (Very athletic… that’s about it); Ludlow (Combination of the previous two). Next thing to think about: What are their strengths? NCC: Passing. Stopping the run sometimes… Bellevue: Running, Stopping the run. I think this will be a close one and if Bellevue’s going to win it will be with clock control. With my obvious bias I’ll take Bellevue 31 NCC 27
  16. Having seen both of these teams, I really think Dayton will take this one. The kids just seem to be clicking... I think it has a lot to do with their experience and coaching. I'll take Dayton in a close one Dayton 17 Ludlow 13
