I definately think Conner could make the move to the number 5 spot, but so could most of the other teams. We will need to see how the loss of Avery affects them. Avery is also a player that could have easily been mentioned in the top 10 list.

The three best players in NKY reside at Covington Holmes in Pittman and the two Johnson brothers. This is an undisputed fact. They were the only three from NKY that were All State players last yr with two of them being 1st team and the other as a 3rd team. R. Johnson & Pittman are the probably the co-favorites for Mr. Basketball and J. Johnson might possibly make 1st team all state and probably no worse than 2nd team. There is no one in NKY that comes close to these three.

Shuffle the teams from 5-10 and put them in any order and you would have a pretty good argument. Add in Cambell County and Brossart to that mix as well.

 

I could see McLeish moving up the list if he able to stay at his natural 2 guard position. While I think he would be more than capable of running the point for Ryle that is not his best position.

I believe that Highlands should hold the #2 spot over Boone because : They split with Boone last year; Boone lost McFarland, Brown & Spaulding; HHS loses nobody from that team; they have senior leadership this season; and Mike Flynn will take this talented group to a higher level.

I would also disagree with the Pangallo neysayers, Grant is for real. Jolly is a nice shooter but not a top 10 and O'Conner isn't close to bumping anyone from that list.

Pittman, unless something drastically changes, isn't the co-front runner for Mr. Basketball. It's Guyn and Johnson. The best 3 in NKY though are definitely Pittman and the Johnson brothers, no question about it.

I think he is the best player on Ryle right now. Some might make an argument for Stauffer. While McLeish is a good player, I don't know for sure that I'd put him in the top 10. He needs to develop a more consistent shot. He may somewhere between top 8 to 15. Rico Johnson and Boone's guard pair are probably the best 3 1/2 positions this year in the 9th, with McLeish next at that position in the 9th, followed by Pangallo, and then Bryan.

Who is the 4th? Holmes has Johnsons, Pittman, Rice, and Avery as their best players. Boone has Gabbard, Popp, Earls, and Cotton as their best. Highlands has Kowolonek, Grote, and Grubbs. I think any of these could be top 10, if not now, then by the end of the season.

I thought Coleman had a tough year last year. His strength is 3-point shooting. When he's on, he can fill it up. I didn't see him put the ball on the floor much and drive or post up as much. He has the potential to have a very good senior season. He will also need to be tough on the defensive end. McLeish's strength is defense. He has a scorer's mentality. He's not a great penetrator and not exceptionally quick, but is strong. Sometimes his outside shot isn't as consistent. Both are good players and kids and I wish them the best. Stauffer certainly has the potential to be Ryle's best player this year.

In any event, getting a little off-track here as this is a NKY thread, not a Ryle thread. My point was and is, if McLeish is arguably only the third best player on his own team, I'm not sure why anyone would put him three overall in NKY as someone did.

 

I will be interested to see how things shake out this year at Ryle though, as I agree with most, they certainly have some talent.
