UK is cutting faculty, but....

Featured Replies

On the University's dime there are 73 employees that work in "sports"....58 of which make more than $30K

Is it possible that Cal, by being a member of the country club, brings in more money for the athletic association than another employee?

How about all the money the athletic department will raise (or already has) because of Calipari that will fund athletic scholarships for non revenue sports?

Enrollment does increase after athletic success and that does bring money to the university even though the university itself spends zero funds on athletics.

I have more problem with UK cutting staff while increasing tuition and enrollment. If you have more students paying more money, how are you cutting staff? I'm pretty sure thats the case at UK currently.

The athletic department has nothing to do with it.

So I assume that you are forgoing any college sporting events, and instead donating that money to the university of your choice? :D:D

The program brings in the money.....the previous head coaches did, as will the next.....that still has nothing to do with the surplus of money that could be donated to the University by the Athletic Department.

No, but I wouldn't mind some of my money going to the school.

What if the athletic department picked up the bill on the 73 employees that do get paid by the University? Calipari and co....being of that number?

So should they pick-up the bill for the other State employees being layed off?

Let's start with University employees, then the argument can commence in regards to other state employees.

Question: Does the UKAA fund all the athletic scholarships (for all sports)?

^ Novel idea....what if the athletic budget stepped up, and helped the school?

They do, they dropped over 1 million into the general scholarship fund last year. May not have been the scholarship fund but they gave the university 1 million for something pertaining to scholarships.

Not sure exactly, but under Barnhart, the amount of money that has gone into the Olympic sports as well as money for those athletes and coaches has gone up significantly.

Dr Todd just turned down his $168k bonus that was due.

It was part of his contract.

Well then, that makes it perfectly ok......Gillispie had a personal driver, I'm sure the University loved that decision.

RP I don't know what your big problem is with this. Every university does it, not just UK.
