So far it is narrowed to Berea, Murray,Cumberland and adding to the list is Campbellsville She is trying to stay in Kentucky if possible.

My son is a freshman at Georgetown, yes the dorms have some age but college is beyond the dorms. How about his largest class has 18 students in it, how about the professors knowing him by name, how about a freshman class that has over 400 students while the college is about 1500 total. Kids want to go there.

 

I don't disagree with that at all, however, there are numerous other small colleges in Kentucky that offer those things . . . . and have decent residence halls for the kids to live in. At the end of the day, you can't visit them all, so we narrowed our visiting list to about 6-8 schools and are working from there. Georgetown didn't make our cut list because we heard the same complaint about them from several different people. I have no doubt it's a great place, though.

Just took a trip today to Morehead and have to say we left a little disappointed. Nothing really stood out to us. Nothing terribly wrong, but nothing overly impressive either. Many of the buildings, and pretty much every single dorm, are quite old and unattractive. Some of the dorms need some serious re-modeling. Maybe our high expectations going in negatively biased our final opinion, but we were simply expecting a much "prettier" (for lack of a more manly word) campus. Did we miss something?

To me, it would come down to Transy or Centre. And that wouldn't be much of a debate, because Transy is a wet campus in a wet county, and Centre is dry.

 

Then again, I'm a student and you are a parent. And I go to UK and its only Monday, so my BAC is technically still above the legal limit, probably. So take my post with a grain of salt.

No coop, you pretty much summed up our feeling on our visit to Morehead a couple of years ago.

 

Nothing really bad, but nothing really nice either and to be honest, of all the College Campuses we visited in our week of traveling around the Commonwealth, the Morehead staff showed (her opinion) the least interest in her attending school there than any other College we attended!

Well I will say we were given a nice, thorough tour by a very friendly, courteous admissions person who went out of her way to get us some additional information she didn't know. No issues on that end at all for us. Just left very disappointed, especially since this is a school that he would very likely get a fully paid tuition (plus room and board, books, etc..). Despite being able to likely go there for free, we pretty much eliminated it yesterday.

Morehead has a great faculty......but the school itself is just plain old, dull, and Morehead the city is about as boring and uneventful as it gets..............

Nice to get some input on some of these smaller schools.

He was also offered a similar scholarship at Bellarmine that was, hands down, more significant than UL.

They have a Liquor Barn. That should just about cover it.

Bellermine and UE offered enough in scholarships and grants to cover almost all of the tuition and board his first year. He lost the board money he moved into the frat house, but the tuition awards continued. We took out abut $2500 in total loans over his first 3 years. His senior year was the toughest to get covered but his Masters year was easy.

Meh, I could take it or leave it. I loved the history department, hated the fact that the education department was on the top of the hill and there was never any parking up there.

 

I found most of my classmates to be idealistic fools with little grasp of human nature or how the world works. The professors were cool overall though.
