October 19, 200916 yr I disagree. Healthy Rivers and Moogalooga are the most significant upgrades, IMO. Rey Rey is still a big liabilty when it comes to pass coverage. He is still learning. The pash rush defense was much improved with Odom. Once he is out of the game plan, we see what can happen. defense got torched.

There's no reason why the Bengals offense shouldn't be putting more points on the board with the production they're getting from Cedric Benson. Two things...the receivers are going to have to start catching the ball more consistently and Carson Palmer is going to have to start playing like a franchise QB for 60 minutes instead of waiting for the ends of halves and games.

I know Coles had a TD yesterday, but I am still not 100% sure why they insist on using him. He drops far more than he catches, effectively wasting a down most of the time he is targeted. I think they would really be better off with Caldwell at #2 and Henry at #3 consistently.

I completely agree. Coles is a walking penalty, a drive killer. Caldwell is their most consistent and dependable pass catcher. Ochocinco is dependable enough and a big play threat. And, Henry gives you a huge weapon in the slot. He brings explosive plays, a big red zone target, and a guy defenses have to account for regardless of how many times Carson actually targets him. Coles gives you none of any of those things. Are they playing him because of his salary? I don't get it.
October 19, 200916 yr ttt:popcorn: Why you eating popcorn after one game? I have like four games of the Bengals when I could have been eating that popcorn after the way the Bengals defense played. This game they didn't play good, its simple as that. Even good defenses have bad days. I mean Baltimore defense really struggling this year, Steelers defense gives up points in the 4th quarter when it really matters most. The Giants gave up 41 points yesterday. I mean when you play good offenses, sometimes the offense does get the better of the defense. Up until this game, I would have taken the Bengals defense over any other defense in the AFC North and I still would take them over the Ravens defense right now. The Texans were playing for their season basically yesterday, and the Bengals didn't come out and match it. Now if the defense lays an egg against the Bears next week, then I definitely would have nothing to say. I fully expect the team to learn from this, and come back out with the same intensity they had all year up until the Texans game.:thumb:

I think you need to look at the play calling. Once it under two minutes, they open up the playbook and that is why you see Palmer do so much better. I know the Bengals are committed to running the ball which is good, but they have to find away to also open things up more too. The Bengals have the worst TE's in the league, so put 4 WR's and go like that sometimes instead of always waiting till the final 2 minutes to do that.

October 20, 200916 yr Author What from yesterday's game makes you believe that they are ready to make the jump to "Elite" status. They are above average, borderline good, but if you can't get off the field, you will get beat more often that than not. A lot of that had to do w/ the inability to cover the TE (their safety's are really bad in coverage). Additionally, how many times can you get beat on quick slants? Certainly their worst game of the year. I agree with the above average/good status. They played GREAT @ Baltimore and then laid an egg at home against the Texans. We need to be way more consistent.

October 20, 200916 yr Well, they weren't a top 10 defense before, and they almost certainly won't reach that level with Odom done for the year. They've got the pieces in place to reach that level next season if they can get Odom back healthy and make a few key additions through free agency and the draft.
