I agree totally with the "experience" comments. I just want to remind everyone that Holy Cross is also very experienced this year. This group has been playing together since 8th grade. I am very familar with the feeder programs for schools such as Beechwood that produce great talent every year. However, the planets are very much aligned this year for HC. They paid their dues last year by playing top schools such as Ryle and Simon Kenton and had respectable games. You will not, however, recognize this year's Indian team. No more "grade school" offense with the same plays and same sets. HC now runs a very complex spread offense with numerous formations, blocking schemes and options. Beechwood will need to be healthy defensively to deal with that. Bellevue and Pikeville were far from being "cupcakes". Bellevue has a great running game and Pikeville has a huge active D-line. It was interesting reading the Eastern Kentucky blogs and news media AFTER the Pikeville game (a complete turnaround of respect for the Indians). The HC first string "toyed" with both teams. As I mentioned in a previous post, I expect a good hard fought game on Friday night. Beechwood is Beechwood. Their tradition is well known. It has been said that Holy Cross is not Dixie and it is not Highlands. That might not be a good thing for Beechwood (cue their coaches studying HC film this past weekend). Friday night should be lots of fun. I can't wait!

I agree, but I also think BW is better than the lopsided scores have shown. Rash threw these boy's right into the fire. Having as many as 8 soph's on the field at any given time is a luxury this early in the season...it will pay-off down the road when the depth becomes an issue.

I think HC is going to come into Ft Mitchell thinking a win is an absolute done-deal.

 

Why would anyone make a statement like this? No team that has ever been O-fer against another team should come in with that mindset.

 

I believe Cross will come in ready to play and hungry for a win against a perenially "ready to compete for a State Championship every year" team. If Beechwood doesn't stop the run, this one could be over early. I look for a close game, HC 20-17.

HC will gladly play the underdog role knowing that it has never beaten the Beechwood varsity. There is no attempt from this poster to compare HC with Dixie or Highlands (not on the HC schedule this year). However, Conner does pay HC a visit on the 18th. Hope the explanation helps.

 

As poster #8 I never said the result seems to be a done deal. I did infer that Highlands defense was better than HC's and since Beechwood moved the ball and scored on Highlands that they should be able to do the same to HC. I also said that the question was could the defense stop HC. I made no prediction but will now. BW takes this one.

This is a whole new offensive attack I don't think BW can stop the athletes HC has. If HC comes focused and ready to play they take care of business. But if they come out scared of the big bad mighty Tigers then it will be the same old song and dance.

Beechwood is ranked 54th in the state and Holy Cross is 60th. Have these two ever been ranked this closely? The Indians should be chomping at the bit to get that W.

Be realistic Highlands could have scored as much as they wanted? Beechwoods D needs to come ready to play better than they have the previous two games. That being said with the tradition and coaching they have I fully expect that will be the case.

You might want to wait until after the game before you go beating on the mighty Beechwood Chest. Tradition and all Beechwood has to be banged up a little to be so cocky about this game.

 

After reading Ernst' blog I'm much more nervous about this game. I have not followed HC, but after reading how much bigger, stronger, more experienced, and more athletic they are than BW...that's been the formula that has hurt B'Wood so far. Oh well, guess we'll soon see if the "D" is catching on.
