Unless I've misunderstood, and that is quite common, I thought Ashland's line play was the only possible chink in the armor. Do I misunderstand? I thought I heard Ashland posters say that lineplay was the weakest link.

I do not think you misunderstood. I have been told and watched them against Greenup and I would have to say that the OL/DL and the placekicking were the only weaknesses I saw. Pass coverage had to rate pretty well.....GC threw 1 pass and it was intercepted. Raceland will attempt more passes on it's first drive than Greenup threw the entire game. Ashland's linebacker play was pretty tough.

... These senior Tomcats have NEVER beaten a Raceland varsity team. This game will be their final crack at the Rams…I hope they can make every play count. It will take 100% effort to beat Raceland…it ALWAYS does.

 

... The Tomcats will need to come out blazing from the opening kickoff and set the pace of this game. Raceland’s intensity level, if it carries over (and it will), needs to be met full force by every Tomcat that steps foot on that field.

I wasn't implying that they were weak. I said weakest link. I know that's semantics, just asking. I suppose they'll be "tested" then after this weekend. Good luck to both teams. I hope that both emerge injury free.

I was reflecting on my last post. The OL did not play poorly against Greenup but with the skill players speed and Greenup's lack of speed made it hard to determine if indeed the OL was performing at a high level or not.

I don’t believe GC's line will be of the same caliber Ashland will face this Friday. The Raceland game will enable us to better gauge the quality of Ashland’s line play. As Graybeard said…. Tomcat linemen need to prove themselves this week.

I still say that you guys have earned a rest with the impressive win last week. I think that Graybeard and Painter should take the guys out and have a good time and rest up for next week.

I didn't mean to sound defensive. My point is: not knowing how good they are is not the same as thinking they are bad. The jurry is still out, that's all.

 

I suspect they will step up and prove to be pretty stout.

If the Rams play like they did in the last 5 minutes of the Boyd County game, they will keep it respectable. If not, the Tomcats will run wild. And there can't be any of this waiting untill the end of the game to start playing, it will take 4 quarters of all out football effort to keep this one close for Raceland. This is a much better Ashland team from a year ago, and we know Raceland took some heavy casualties at graduation. The Rams have to find a way to contain Ashlands speed or they will have more than a 12 point defecit to overcome in the 4th quarter.

May both teams stay injury free and Raceland somehow be able to stay on the field with this powerhouse Ashland team.

Raceland has shown that they are a better team than just about every other area team the last few years. Should Ashland quit playing all the local schools? I think we all know the answer to that. This is always a good game financially for both schools. It's also always a good, exciting game for the fans of both sides to watch. Unfortunately it hasn't been a good game as far wins and loses for the Tomcats the past 3 years. I'm confident that Coach Hart, and the Tomcats will get that corrected this week. I look for it to be another exciting game to watch.

I agree with you on the point regarding playing this series. We are not from a densely populated are i.e. Northern KY where class size really is not important except for Playoff time. Beechwood only plays 1A teams when it comes to District play and playoffs. I think that is why they usually breeze through the 1A competition. Raceland has a unique situation and that is all the local teams, with exception of District opponents, are larger schools. I think with the ability to play local teams and be competitive has helped us start to do better with playoff teams.

As long as Raceland and any other smaller school can put a quality product on the field, there shouldn't be shame in losing. I hope that Ashland and Raceland continue to play for many years to come. Like I said in an earlier post, this is a great enviroment to play for the players and for the fans to enjoy the game and for us on the sidelines to enjoy.

 

Good luck Friday night and I hope this is another nail biter as in recent years. No matter the winner, I hope both teams give it 100% and the class of both programs continues to shine through.:thumb:
