The Independent is 5 for 5. All of their prognostication team has picked Ashland to beat Raceland. I would say that makes Raceland the underdog. Everyone knows that Ashland is good, and a loss for Ashland in this game would be an upset.

I think everyone knows that Raceland has really had Ashland's number the past 3 years. I think it was a great move by either Coach Hart, or AD Mark Swift to move this game from the 1st game of the year. Ashland was able to get thru all of the 1st game jitters last week, and should be ready to go this Friday night. Everyone I've talked to has said Ashland looked very good last week, and that their team speed as tremendous. I mean no disrespect to Greenup County, but we should have a much better read on this Tomcat team after Friday night's game. I've heard that Sam Hunter has drawn some comparisons to former Tomcat great Ian Holbrook. I don't think I would put those kind of expectations on the young man yet, but if he can come anywhere close to accomplishing what Holbrook did at QB then Hunter will have had a great career at Ashland. Alber and Carter have proven that they are two very good backs, and having DeMartino back is a huge plus as well. I believe Ashland puts a stop to the 3 game losing streak to Raceland, and the firetrucks get to stay inside the station in Raceland.

The respect we had last year is just that, in the past. No one respects Raceland in this one and maybe that is rightfully so. I hope we make it close Friday. I do not want to see a blow out.

AP Poll 8/26/09 has Ashland ranked 10th in 5A and Raceland 5th in 1A.

By the way it is ver hard for me to believe that Raceland's QB is as old as he is. I used to work with his dad Bill, now Raceland's AD, at Ashland Inc. I can remember how excited Bill was when he and his wife were expecting Tyler. He was like a little kid on Christmas Eve for several months. :lol: I'm sure I'm probably one of the few people who know why he was named Tyler also. Anybody want to take a guess? Anyway I hope young Mr. Farley has a good game in the old stadium that his dad used to call home, but not good enough to beat his daddy's Tomcats. :D

You won't find a finer man than Bill Farley. I agree that Bill is a very excitable person, that once he commits to something he puts everything he has into it. Raceland should be very grateful for what they have.

I believe that Sam will set new passing records at Ashland before he graduates. He is only a sophomore and will continue to get better and better. BTW, this was Ian's opinion before it was mine.

 

I look for Sam to have a break-out year.

I too hope that the Raceland QB has a good game. Here's hoping that all the participants finish the game uninjured. Should be a great atmosphere at Putnam. Putnam is and always has been the best venue for high school football in the area. Count me in the number of people who have fond memories there and hope that Friday night just adds to the resume' of that storied gridiron.

 

As for my prediction, I'll say Raceland by 2. Extra point conversion denied for victory.

Raceland had better come to play friday! Ashland is one the best teams they will see this year, and it will only get better. I believe Ashland owes Raceland a little something and the Tomcats are ready to dish it out. Raceland will need to pack a lunch box for this one! It Should be a Show.

I have told many, if you are going to pick on Raceland, you better do it this year because there is a lot of young talent coming.
