rockmom Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 So, they've been pretty bad this year, don't you think? I have been noticing getting bitten a lot. But tonight is INSANE! I cut my grass last Friday. Today, since it's going to rain tomorrow, I thought I'd go ahead and use the last of my energy to cut the grass so it's not impossibly tall this weekend. I just counted and on ONE LEG ALONE, I have over 100 separate bites. I didn't bother counting the other leg. They're all swelling and beginning to morph into each other and it's all red and rashy looking in between the swollen spots. And ITCHY! I'm really grateful for the mild summer, and I don't want to complain, but the mosquitos are causing me some major angst. :isurrender::cry::taz:
cammando Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 All the extra rain and flooding in your area might have made them worse this year...
rockmom Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 All the extra rain and flooding in your area might have made them worse this year... Oh, I know....but there's been no standing water in my yard. I guess it's because I worked REALLY hard to get grass in my back yard this summer, and I have this really thick, green, beautiful grass....and a plethora of ivy...and it's holding all the moisture. I should have left the dirt.

Nah...the Lucky dog takes care of making sure there's no critters like that. We had a possum that tried hard to make a home, but after being cornered in the yard, thought better of it. The possum was almost as big as Lucky. It was a definite sight to behold when that happened.
threetimelover Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Well...I'm lucky that I don't get bitten by the nasty critters. I have probably only had about 10 mosquito bites my entire life...seriously. My daughters on the other hand, absolutely get eaten up when they are outside at dusk. My almost-5 year old calls them "spigito bites."
GaViking Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 You might want to try Skin So Soft by Avon. Our family went to the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia one year. They have a sign posted before you enter the swamp for the boat ride that the gift shop sells Skin So Soft. I was the only member of the family to get bitten by big yellow flies. Big gator's in the water, and I was rocking the boat smacking the flies. Same thing happened to a friend two weeks later.
Hard Court Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I have been told to use listerine diluted with water, apply with a mist and this is suppose to work well to keep them off.
John Anthony Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 RM you are dead on. I coach football and my legs no joke have at least 4 bites on each leg its horrible!
Aiden Seamus Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I work outside all day, every day, and I can probably count the mosquitos I've seen this year on one hand. I don't think they've been bad AT ALL. Haven't been bitten by any this summer, and have only seen a couple. Richmond's weather has been wet and rainy too, but I'm not seeing many mosquitos this summer and I'm thankful for it. On top of working outside, I go to the dog park about twice a week as well. No problems there either.
halfback20 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I was outside the other day for around 15 minutes and I counted around 45 bites on my legs before I gave up and went inside. It's awful and I hate them.

This is the worst year ever for them!

3wishes Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I thought this was the best year ever, I have hardly even had any encounters with them this year, however, last week when I was in Frankfort I got bit about 10 times in 10 minutes, but EKY is pretty good.
AverageJoesGym Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 The only bites I have gotten all year were in Atlanta 3 weeks ago. I've seen almost no mosquitos so far this summer and I've been to a bunch of summer league baseball games from Covington to Knoxville.
