Perfect example. When someone w/ that kind of reputation who has been around the team long enough wants to sit out the summer while they "think" about their future you let them. GB already had a guy they thought could replace Favre so they made him walk after he wouldn't decide before the draft about his future. For a guy that brought that franchise back from the dark ages they should have waited. They knew he was coming back. He just had them in the NFC title game.

 

Strahan did it once, and he never said he was officially retiring. He never had a press conference crying and saying how he was going to miss the game only to say he wants to come back.

 

He thought about retiring but came back for one more season, won a super bowl and deliberated playing one more season. He then retired and never said he'd come back again. The Giants did call and ask him to come back, but he turned them down. Favre's situation is much different than Strahan's.

My Grandpa has worked blue collar jobs in Pittsburgh his entire life and everytime we've been there for the holidays the past couple years he says he's retired, yet still ends up going back to these jobs everytime. Should I tell him you don't like him?

The only way these two things are similar (your grandpa and Brett Favre) is that they are both people. I do not know your grandpa and I do not see him on TV every other second.

 

Brett Favre is on TV every other day talking about retiring and then talking about coming back. He's crying, saying it's been fun, and then he's smiling and talking about how his daughter wanted him to play again. I do not know your grandpa, and quite frankly I don't care what decisions he makes about his future. Same for Favre. I don't care what Favre does, I just wish he'd make up his mind and quit taking up time on TV. I'm sick of seeing him.

Saw that coming from a mile. Tell me this, does Favre call up ESPN and the local news stations and tell them to send their helicopters up to follow his every move to Minnesota. Favre doesn't care about the media attention, he's not T.O.

They were down a D-lineman when Osi went down so their situation was different than the Packers when Favre retired. The Packers had a more than capable back up ready to take his spot. (The Giants did too, but they didn't have one as good as Strahan).

 

As for Green Bay, I understand their position. Favre put them in a bad spot by retiring and then un-retiring. They had already given the job to Aaron Rodgers and IMO that was the best thing they could have done. Favre would not have taken them to the playoffs last year. Aaron Rodgers played better than Favre did last year, and Rodgers is better than Favre right now.

IMO this was decided when he had surgery. He didn't have surgery to stay retired. He wants to win the division and possibly more to tell GB to shove it. I don't blame him one bit. If 10 years from now Tom Brady has second thoughts about OTA's, mini camps, and the beginning of training camp don't you think he'll be given the luxury of waiting? I do. It was a dumb move and I hope Favre lights them up twice. This wouldn't be a media blitz of the media wasn't dumb about it. If they left him and the story completely alone he would still be back. It's not his fault he's stalked by the media.

I don't like BSPN, but I watch it from time to time because it's the only major sports channel. He's on the internet too...all over it.

They didn't treat him with respect? They paid him millions of dollars...that's enough respect. And he wouldn't have made them better last year...Rodgers was a better QB.
