Stick, where do I start with this. When you say what has happened to this great country do you really have to ask?? Look I love this country more than the next man and or woman but some things that are going on in this country have been brewing for a very long time. To understand what is going on in anything now you have to look at the past. This country was first occupied by the Native Americans. The Native Americans were killed and had their land taken away from the Europeans. Now since I am not a Native American right along with the majority on this site that means us. The Europeans (or us or better yet lets just say our ancestors) also brought along diseases that wiped out a lot of the Native Americans. Now for a person who posted somewhere on this site about sending the foreigners (I'm assuming Mexicans) home or busing them back from where they came from has some kind of nerve because the majority of the people here in the U.S. were and are not of the Native dissent so I guess we all would have to leave right??? Now once the land was taken away by the Europeans the Europeans here started to make money off the land right, right stick?? I bet it would be hard to find deeds to the land that a lot of people have made a lot of wealth off of stick. When I say the deed, I mean, you know, how much did they pay for the land. Did that happen or was the land taken?? I will go with the latter. Do you still ask what has happened to our great country?? So where does that fit under stealing or is that a form of welfare???

 

Lets don't forget about slavery. Yeah I know that a lot of you all are probably saying get over it already but once again a lot of wealth has been made without having to shell out wages. Yes these people and companies are still big to this day because of this form of, well can we call it welfare?? I mean people were getting very rich without having to work and pay out wages?? You ask what has happened to our great country??? I'm still trying to figure how people in this country could act and carry out torture on people just because of the color of their skin. The lynchings, burning, bombings, dogs, water, yeah stick all this happened in this great country.

 

You also talked about crime and talked about friends of yours only getting house arrest for trafficking drugs in. Not in the black community they get jail time for the same crime or charges, I bet your friends were white weren't they. So we can't even be equal in the sentences we hand out for the same crimes. You know what lets just legalize all the drugs, and tax them like we do alcohol. Then have the same ramifications legally we have if you get caught drinking and driving, public intoxication etc. You all don't think that it's a form of socialism to where you are told what you can and can't do with your own body outside of hurting someone else. Amazing isn't it. Especially when the haves are the ones profiting from this drug industry and the street dealers get the time. I mean last time I checked cocaine isn't grown here in the U.S. Has anybody ever wondered how this drug is getting into our country in the first place. Someone in that big White House has been turning a blind eye and deaf ear for a very, very, very long time. You know Ronald's war on drugs, by the way, let in more drugs than ever in this country. Just ask old Ollie North about that. This great country, Stick??

 

Education, well that is a no brainer. This is still with the haves and have nots. The people with the money have the better education. You cried about how education should be on the same level or when you talked to your foreigner friend what did he say. Now you said he was European and there is a health care system over there and a lot of how do we say it, socialists views. Their education system is very affordable do to this. Their gas prices have been high for a very long time and they don't complain because well once again they have socialists views. I mean the President is trying to push for things that will kick this welfare habit, better education to all to where they can be more productive later on in the future. But he also has to take care of the problem at hand now!! You guys won't let him. Heck people are already talking about revolutions and stuff. Why because of the fear of a black man in the White House. I mean some people are dogging him and comparing him to the likes of other presidents but noone talked with fear of them or talked about a revolution. I wonder why that is Stick??? Rebelling against our Commander in Chief. You right what has happened to our country.???

 

So there it is Stick, I'm just ranting like you but the difference is that I know what is going on and why. Lets be real here. This country, which I love, hasn't always been the perfect model that we make it out to be. We have our skeletons,in and out,just as well as any other country. You know the Bible says that you will reap what you sow. Maybe the is what is going on in our great country, maybe this is God's doing and not Obama's or anybody elses. So we will just have to ride this storm. Come together, and help each other, yeah that is what a great country is supposed to do.

And those of us that were against the Iraq invasion were called un-american. Those of us that tried to clear up the misunderstandings that somehow the Iraqi invasion was payback for 9/11 were called traitors.

I was perhaps unclear. I don't think that I was called that by anyone on here, ever. I've only been a member since Oct 2006. I'm talking about people that I know personally.

Stick, I agree completely with everything you said. Especially about drug testing. I had to take a drug test to get my job and am subject to drug testing if my employer asked me to do it again. That same standard should be held to anyone getting welfare checks.

 

As a nurse, I constantly seeing people working very hard to get certified as "disabled" so they can get that check. Far too many are not even close to being disabled. If they would put the same hard work and imagination into a real job they would do fine!

I totally agree.

So if the majority feel this way why isn't it done? It could be funded from the money of those that fail. Crime might go up but god forbid we build more jails making more jobs and more harsh punishments.

Wrong. That card is so overplayed which is why I think M. Luther King Jr would be sick about the way it is abused. Race and socio-economic are not the same. I would venture to say that a good 90% of the people in Eastern KY I see on welfare are white.

You know stick why should it get shut down because you talk about race. That is the problem now people want it to be swept under like problems have never or don't exist at all. You were talking about welfare and how people take advantage of it and are too lazy to work. All I was saying that people with money have their forms of welfare also. They take advantage of people, things and situations just as much as someone with nothing. That is all I'm saying. To me with that situation it is far worse. So whatever you do just know that your taxes are paying either for a person who doesn't want to work or for a person with plenty of money who doesn't need any extra handouts or anything. So don't even worry about just do you and take care of yours. I will do the same.

 

I may be misenterprting you but you seem to be implying that for one person to succeed, others must suffer. I'm sorry but it is not a zero sum gain with a fixed set of resources. Just because someone does well doesn't mean it is at the expense of another. The Robinhood government doesn't work. It colapses on itself. History shows it to be a failure everywhere.
