August 9, 200917 yr True. Just like not every white man engaged in slavery either, but it sure seems like that is what is alleged these days. It's like somehow I am responsible for atoning for the past sins of slavery; yet my family didn't step foot on this continent until the practice of slavery had been over for approx 50 years. Does that make sense or seem fair to you? I didn't say you are responsible for anything. What I said is that this country hasn't always been one to model afterwards. That is all I'm saying. Point blank

It's like somehow I am responsible for atoning for the past sins of slavery; yet my family didn't step foot on this continent until the practice of slavery had been over for approx 50 years. Does that make sense or seem fair to you? Well, that's another issue entirely, but I do agree with you. Even those of us whose white ancestors (or hispanic in my case, some of which enslaved Native Americans, also in my bloodline) DID those evil things, well...we shouldn't be responsible for the misdeeds of our forefathers. I can really see how it irks you, in your case.
August 9, 200917 yr Stick, I agree completely with everything you said. Especially about drug testing. I had to take a drug test to get my job and am subject to drug testing if my employer asked me to do it again. That same standard should be held to anyone getting welfare checks. As a nurse, I constantly seeing people working very hard to get certified as "disabled" so they can get that check. Far too many are not even close to being disabled. If they would put the same hard work and imagination into a real job they would do fine!

August 9, 200917 yr You've got to be serious when you say that 911 existed for all of us. No it didn't exist for me and I personally never wanted it to happen or asked for it to happen so you need to better explain that one. We didn't go to war because of 911 we went to war in Iraq over supposedly weapons of mass destruction. Didn't find any. Plus why didn't we go after Bin Laden because he was the one behind 911 not Sadaam. As a matter of fact there were more Saudis involved than people from Iraq. You do know the Saudis are very close and personal with the Bush family don't you. Funny isn't it??:lol::lol: :idunno: Is your name Micheal Moore? Didn't Congress have to approve of Iraq? Or did the president just blindly enter Iraq on his own?
August 9, 200917 yr :lol::lol: :idunno: Is your name Micheal Moore? Didn't Congress have to approve of Iraq? Or did the president just blindly enter Iraq on his own? And those of us that were against the Iraq invasion were called un-american. Those of us that tried to clear up the misunderstandings that somehow the Iraqi invasion was payback for 9/11 were called traitors.
August 9, 200917 yr Author You want to use Dontae Stallworth. How about Medgar Evers, Martin Luther, Malcolm X. Are you kidding me?? Also stick you find the statistics behind the case by case thing and get back to me. You are talking about people way back before I was born. You want to live off the past. I'm talking about recent history. Did Stallworth walk for killing somebody? Did I miss something? Is he white? His money talked! I do think it's case by case. Since you brought the whole thing up why don't you look up the stats if they even exist. I agree with one thing the guys I went to school with should have gotten a lot more time. We live in the trophy age where we have become soft. We don't want to hurt anybody's feelings and everybody desrves an award. People are being raised now as the norm to have no fear of authority because they know authority has their hands tied. I've got a lot of black and white friends. I've mentored a lot of black and white kids. If any of them are trafficing drugs from Fla to KY I could give a care less what color their skin is they should be locked up! I feel bad for guys like Martin Luther King Jr. He was a great man and I think he would be sickend at the number of folks that want to ride the color card without legit reasons. The fact is there is still racism. When I say racism I'm talking Whites vs Blacks and just as bad if not worse Blacks vs Whites. That's not politically correct to talk about though:sssh: It's a shame we haven't progressed more than we have but it has gotten better that can't be argued. There are issues still no doubt but not the slavery we once had back with the people you bring up.
August 9, 200917 yr There are issues still no doubt but not the slavery we once had back with the people you bring up. None of the people that he mentioned were slaves. They were civil rights activists.
August 9, 200917 yr Author None of the people that he mentioned were slaves. They were civil rights activists. I know this. You think there weren't slaves in the South still during the time they were fighting for peoples rights?
August 9, 200917 yr Author This has started turning into a race thread which is not the path I thought would come up. I don't mind talking about it at all but don't want the thread to get shut down.
August 9, 200917 yr I know this. You think there weren't slaves in the South still during the time they were fighting for peoples rights? If you mean it figuratively, certainly. If you mean in literally, then no.
August 9, 200917 yr Author It supposedly ended close to the 1870's I think. From the tours i've been on in the south it supposedly went on much longer. X+king were born in the 1920's I think. I would think they still saw some of it. Maybe I'm wrong. I definatly don't claim to be an expert on it. I do know from those tours that while they might not be termed slaves there were tons of black families that still lived with and worked for white men. Often times it was good relationships that offered the best chance to support their families. Now back to the thread topic. Any legit ideas to get our country back on track?
August 9, 200917 yr None of the people that he mentioned were slaves. They were civil rights activists. True Blue I wasn't talking about slaves here. Dontae Stallworth isn't a slave either but that is who stick was talking about.
August 9, 200917 yr This has started turning into a race thread which is not the path I thought would come up. I don't mind talking about it at all but don't want the thread to get shut down. You know stick why should it get shut down because you talk about race. That is the problem now people want it to be swept under like problems have never or don't exist at all. You were talking about welfare and how people take advantage of it and are too lazy to work. All I was saying that people with money have their forms of welfare also. They take advantage of people, things and situations just as much as someone with nothing. That is all I'm saying. To me with that situation it is far worse. So whatever you do just know that your taxes are paying either for a person who doesn't want to work or for a person with plenty of money who doesn't need any extra handouts or anything. So don't even worry about just do you and take care of yours. I will do the same.
August 9, 200917 yr Author I have no problem talking about race. It's the forum rules. If you want to talk about it open another thread. I have no problem at all talking about it. Not my rules. I agree with you that people in power buck the system too. The biggest difference in them IMO is that they have drive. Right or wrong you don't get into government without a lot of drive, money and hard work. The differnece between them and welfare is pretty big. Major difference in pushing your way through school and the ranks as opposed to waiting to collect that free check at the start of the month.
