I somewhat agree with this. Now that does not mean I think she is a viable candidate, but it is a solid point. The past year may have changed her some bit in to being a bit more of a manufactured politician, which is why I believe she got out and wants to do it her way. It may be political suicide and come off as dumb, but at least her going against the grain is because it is her own mind telling her to go against the grain.

The media have taken hold of issues that would be non-issues with others and ran with them till they have made her more of a caricature of a person than a true threat.

 

For example, the $150,000 clothing allowance that she did not ask for but recently Michelle Obama was seen carrying a $6,000 purse. Where are the jokes, the outrage, etc, etc as there was with Sarah Palin?

 

I have to ask for examples of how she comes across as someone who is "looking to serve this country" that is different from the others.

 

You're going to need to come up with some more examples of the media being unfair.

 

Unlike the $150k issue , I'll assume Mrs. Obama used her own money to pay for the purse. They are millionaires. Should we expect her to shop at Wal Mart?

One of the things I read was that she had run up $600,000 in lawyer fees for all the attacks on her that have merited nothing.

I think Sarah Palin is just as manufactured as any other politician.

 

The reason so many people have a huge problem with her is that she doesn't seem to have a real good grasp on the issues and that she seems ... well, flighty.

 

I don't care much for her because I think she's a demagogue ... or at the very least, she is easily swayed that way.

I assume that Michelle Obama bought that purse herself ... they are quite wealthy, after all.

 

As for the clothing allowance ... well, there have been conflicting reports on it. Maybe she didn't ask for it, but there were reports that she certainly seemed to enjoy the RNC's open checkbook.

Two years from now would probably be more appropriate but so might 22 years. Or even 26 years from now. Palin could run for the Presidency in 2036 and still be the same age as John McCain when he ran in this last election.

I have a hard time understanding "looking to serve her country" when she's bailing on her state. And that seems to be what lots of other folks are trying to figure out. Once bitten, twice shy.

Bottom line ... she had a chance to make a compelling case for herself as a future presidential candidate in the second half of 2008. Instead, she became the right wing's attack dog (complete with lipstick) and has done little since then except to attempt to portray herself as a victim of her political opponents.

 

I was determined not to judge her as soon as she was nominated, even though I was convinced (and justifiably so) that she was simply a bone thrown to the far right wing of the Republican Party. I have a lot of respect for John McCain, more so than some of those that campaigned for him on this board last year, but I feel secure in asserting that her nomination was perhaps his campaign's biggest mistake.
