It doesn't matter what the Republicans think- as this election showed, it is all about the moderates. And the moderates hate Sarah Palin as a candidate. Heck, just take three of BGP's moderates- Habib, TB&G, and westsider- just those three represent a fairly diverse group, and they can all agree on one thing- it would take very, very, very dramatic changes for them to support Palin.

 

Even if she is popular among Republicans, it would still be a poor move by the RNC to nominate her.

To me it can only help. I know a bunch of Republicans who will not settle for a sub-par candidate this go around.

While I am not a Republican but a conservative Democrat who my party is not serving and I am a huge Palin fan, she is not presently a serious viable presidential candidate. The media have ruined her image to the point she is more caricature than actual person.

I'm wondering about that myself ...

I think she was a viable candidate, but she has squashed those chances IMHO. If you can't take the heat as governor, how would you react to even more pressure as POTUS? This really damages if not totally destroys whatever chance she may have had.

 

Had she walked away to run for President 18 mos before an election for that reason, she would have been MUCH more viable. Now? Not so much.

She does not seem to be what many politicians are today but rather a regular person that is looking to serve this country. Too many of our presidential candidates are created individuals groomed by the establishment to act and perform certain ways.

 

I am cynically that it is more about keeping things status quo instead of helping the country.

The media have taken hold of issues that would be non-issues with others and ran with them till they have made her more of a caricature of a person than a true threat.

 

For example, the $150,000 clothing allowance that she did not ask for but recently Michelle Obama was seen carrying a $6,000 purse. Where are the jokes, the outrage, etc, etc as there was with Sarah Palin?

One of the things I read was that she had run up $600,000 in lawyer fees for all the attacks on her that have merited nothing.

 

At the governor's salary, she cannot afford to pay those off.

 

She could speak and other things and raise enough to pay off her lawyer fees in a much shorter time while not being governor.

I think Sarah Palin is just as manufactured as any other politician.

 

The reason so many people have a huge problem with her is that she doesn't seem to have a real good grasp on the issues and that she seems ... well, flighty.

 

I don't care much for her because I think she's a demagogue ... or at the very least, she is easily swayed that way.

I assume that Michelle Obama bought that purse herself ... they are quite wealthy, after all.

 

As for the clothing allowance ... well, there have been conflicting reports on it. Maybe she didn't ask for it, but there were reports that she certainly seemed to enjoy the RNC's open checkbook.
