Last year his average was .287 this year it's .215.

Last year his OBP was .349 this year it is .287.

Last year his Slugging % was .446 this year it is .361.

Batting averages tend to fluctuate from year to year, and that also affects the other stats.

Guys have down years, or bad halves. Look at Nick Swisher's career, particularly last year and this year. Just because Swisher had a down season a age 27 doesn't mean he was finished, as some around here were thinking.

Johnson may come back, and he may not. But if the Braves write him off as finished, they may find themselves a bit surprised.

And Kelly Johnson was having a bad enough year that he lost his job to Prado, and I'm glad for that. Prado is better...

Then Kotchman should be just as vulnerable as Johnson ... he's done nothing to help the Braves since he landed in Atlanta.

Braves are such a disappointment........

I agree with Kotchman overall. He's been a major let down since coming to Atlanta, in terms of production and many hoped it would get better but it really hasn't. Braves don't have a lot of options for a true 1st baseman so I'm sure he'll still be there.

Honestly they are. They had some expectations for this year and for the most part they have faltered. But it's not over and I'm sure they'll make some moves.

Thus far Smoltz is 0-1 for the Red Sox I believe so will that keep them from trading Brad Penny?

There is no excuse for losing for the lack of a first baseman that can hit ... those guys almost do grow on trees.

It is uncalled for and quite shameful but the Braves don't have a solid up and coming 1st baseman in the farm system. Kotchman will be a Brave for the rest of the year in my opinion and in the offseason they could look into trading him.

How about Yonder Alonzo, Burton and Arroyo for Escobar, and Francouer. :D

He's still better defensively and offensively than Kelly Johnson.

Braves don't need more pitching. That's the last thing they need .

Vernon Wells and Alex Rios are apparently on the market for the Bluejays.

Defense ... at a position that's far less important.

Offense ... at a position with a far higher offensive standard.

Bottom line ... Johnson has turned in two good years but is apparently mired in a slump. Kotchman has yet to turn in a truly good season, and it isn't likely that he will.

True, but after giving up 4 hits and 5 runs in the first inning that he pitched for the Sox he as only give up 6 hits and 1 run in his last 8 innings pitched. He was pitching very well in his second game when a rain delay forced him to come out after 4 innings with a 9-1 lead. If Penny is not traded it will have more to do with Dice-K's stuggles than uncertainty about Smoltz. He may still be moved though since Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden appear ready in the minors.
