July 2, 200917 yr Braves are shopping Kelly Johnson and Yunel Escobar. Pitching situation is still kind of up in the air. With Hudson returning in August the Braves have the potential to hold a pitching surplus of 1. Derek Lowe, 2. Jair Jurrjens, 3. Javier Vazquez, 4. Tommy Hanson, 5. Kenshin Kawakami, 6. Kris Medlen, 7. Jo-Jo Reyes. Medlen was used in the bullpen tonight so who knows if that will be his majority role for the rest of the season. Braves, I'm sure, will shop one of their pitchers (either Vazquez or Kawakami) and package one of Escobar or Johnson for a pretty solid hitting outfielder. That market is pretty slim this year though so most trades that happen will have to be pretty big.
July 2, 200917 yr What big bat you think the Braves can get? Also, I think they should let Ross play 1B some. He can hit and I'm sure he could get it done at 1st. Kotchman doesn't have any power at all. Glad to see Prado playing 2B, he's a big improvement over KJ thus far. I doubt Kelly Johnson has much trade value.
July 2, 200917 yr Johnson is a better player than what he has shown this year. How about keeping him at 2B and giving Prado some time at 1B?
July 2, 200917 yr I'd rather have Kotchman at 1st and Prado at 2nd. If anything, try KJ out at right field and get Francouer out of there. Both are terrible disappointments though.
July 2, 200917 yr Kotchman would make a fine pinch-hitter and defensive replacement. If Johnson can get untracked, he's the better player.

He's terrible... He got a shot to pinch hit tonight and struck out. The Braves need to cut ties with him and Francouer.

Johnson's only 27 and he's been a pretty decent player for two seasons. Guys do have bad years, and Johnson could be playing through an injury, hitting into bad luck or simply having a really bad half of a season. The difference between this year and last year for him is about 15 singles.
July 2, 200917 yr I would love for the Reds to take a shot at Escobar, but I'm not sure they have what the Braves are looking for.

July 2, 200917 yr Author Johnson's only 27 and he's been a pretty decent player for two seasons. The difference between this year and last year for him is about 15 singles. The difference is more than 15 singles. Kelly Johnson is not a really second baseman anyways, and while he has done a better than average while manning that position if the Braves can improve in the outfield then maybe it's time to part ways. I'd rather have Kotchman at 1st and Prado at 2nd. If anything, try KJ out at right field and get Francouer out of there. Both are terrible disappointments though. I agree with keeping Kotchman at first. Braves will be fine at that position ntil they can get a deal for someone else or until they can bring up someone. BUT Francouer is a better defensive player and offensive player than Kelly Johnson and has been playing a lot better lately. His arm in right field is unmatched and that saves at least 1 run a game. While the Braves may eventually trade Francouer (royals are really fond of him) I doubt they move Kelly out to right field as the solution. Johnson is a better player than what he has shown this year. How about keeping him at 2B and giving Prado some time at 1B? Prado deserves 2nd base over the struggling kelly. Now maybe they'll trade Escobar and then move Prado to shortstop for the time being but I see Hernandez taking over shortstop if Yunel is traded.

I'm not sure of who they are going after, but if they offer Vazquez and Escobar for a hitter then they can probably have a really valuable player. Thing is, teams that are wanting pitching are still in contention and really don't want to give up a more power type hitter, that the Braves are looking for. Usually the Braves don't have leverage going into the deadline but this year is different for them. We'll just wait and see and I'll post what I hear. I still say keep an eye on Matt Holliday. I would love for the Reds to take a shot at Escobar, but I'm not sure they have what the Braves are looking for. I don't see the Braves and Reds making a deal. I really don't see a player the Braves would take in return that they need in order to fill some of their holes. Ya never know though!
July 2, 200917 yr I hope the Braves don't get Matt Holliday unless they think they can re-sign him. Otherwise it would be a waste.

July 2, 200917 yr Adding Holliday would still be a mistake IMO if they just rent him for a half of a season. Unless they didn't have to give up very much.
