June 9, 200917 yr This title seems misleading. The invalid score was his second, which was not the one Memphis used to admit him. So two things: 1) He was qualified and admitted based on a valid score. 2) It doesn't seem like there's any question of his eligibility in the eyes of the NCAA.
June 9, 200917 yr Why? His third score got him into Memphis. At least at this point in the Rose situation it looks like Memphis had no knowledge of possible cheating. Calipari was at Memphis. It's not like he had his pick of kids like the UNC's and Dukes of the world. He took questionable kids to get top notch talent. He might not be in that situation ever again if he's picking and choosing. I think it's funny that he is the only big time coach that is "slimy" when other coaches have a worse record as far as violations than him. It's not a perfect situation, but if the NCAA and your school clear the player? There is no eligibility issue, he qualified for entrance with his 3rd score. He also had a questionable test administered his 2nd time around. The issue is there is a pattern of questions surrounding tests scores of 3 recruits from the same team now. It may be nothing to worry about and may be 3 different isolated incidents. But it could also be something more. I don't see how you can deny that there is a cloud of doubt and every additional kid with an issue adds to it, just as this one does.
June 9, 200917 yr Exactly who's questioning? Neither of the last two came from the NCAA who said these kids were qualified to play. Of course they said Rose was qualified as well. Sounds to me like they need some more people working at the clearinghouse. If the people in charge tell you something is ok what are you supposed to do. Now if Dozier was denied entry to Gergia while Harrick was there that really doesn't come as a surprise. Nothing personal Wireman just a little misleading.
June 9, 200917 yr So did he have invalid test scores or were his scores simply questionable? The way the link reads it sounds like Florida has higher admission standards than Memphis. If that is what the fuss is about it really is no big deal. The vultures are ranking Memphis over the hot coals right now and digging for anything they can find with the goal to point a finger at Calipari for being a cheat. The same scrunity Memphis is now getting would probably turn up numerous red flag questions at most schools as well. Look long enough and one will finally find something, however irrevelant.
June 9, 200917 yr I think that players who have flags around their eligibility will have a tough time getting thru the process with Sandy Bell in charge of compliance. I could be wrong, but she seems to run a very tight ship when it comes to that. I think one thing that would help this situation at all colleges is if the NBA were to pass a 2 year rule instead of 1. Sure, you may see a few more kids going overseas, but I agree with Bobby Knight on this one. If they are going to be a student, 1 year doesn't cut it. I don't think they should go the NFL 3 year rule, but 2 would work IMHO. This may push some of the borderline eligible kids to possibly focus a little more on their academics. That would be a correct assumption.

Aside from Rose, weren't both of the other players looking at/committed to other schools at the time of the "questionable" tests?

Well Said Professor. :thumb: Now, can you get back on the bike and pedal so we have enough juice in our coconut batteries to hear the Stock Reports on our AM radio?

I would be more willing to guess that Florida didn't have a spot for a guard and Memphis did.

However, that is 3 of the top 6 leading scorers on the Memphis team that have questionable eligibility. Even if Calipari is completely innocent and it's all a fluke, this looks really, really bad, IMO.
June 9, 200917 yr Sounds like a Memphis Admissions department problem and not a John Calipari/Basketball problem to me.

I put that it isn't a perfect situation which is the same as a cloud of doubt in a way. Here's the thing. The NCAA went over everything involving Memphis basketball and came away w/ the D. Rose incident and a couple of plane rides for D. Rose's brother. If there was anything here to worry about why did the NCAA not worry about it? I would almost guarantee you that this issue is inclusive of Calipari and Memphis and not exclusive. These kids grow up not worrying about school until it's too late and they have to find a way to get into college.
