June 16, 201115 yr My wife and I love Otto's. I don't think that dish was on the menu last time I was there. It's not a dish, so sorry for the "sidetrack", but it's worth noting the beer I had with my dinner. I had a couple of Cattail Ale drafts while I was there. It's an American Pale brewed by Red Ear Brewing down on Pike Street in Covington. It was a solid beer. I'm gonna have to see if I can't pick up a sixer down at the Party Source (their website says they sell it there) in the next few days here. June 16, 201115 yr Fireman's Special from Dairy Kastle in Louisville. I've been there quite a few times myself. Had the Fireman's Special a few weeks back when I was down there for U of L's graduation. I've got to say, though, I think I've heard every single U of L student/grad that I know talk about how "Dairy Kastle is sooooo amazing!". I don't get it. I mean, sure Dairy Kastle is good, but soft serve, root beer floats, Slush Puppies, banana splits and hot fudge sundaes aren't really any different from anywhere else you could get them.
June 16, 201115 yr Pasquale's - Super hoagie, stromboli I'm a Calzone man myself--w/ pepperoni, onion, & green pepper.
June 16, 201115 yr Ate at Otto's down in Mainstrasse the night before last. Ordered their shrimp and grits dinner, and it was FAN-TASTIC. I was just kinda going for something different, and that hit the spot. Shrimp, peppers, onions, mushrooms, garlic, and spinach sauteed and served over a cake of grits and topped with bacon, bleu cheese, and a pretty amazing white sauce. Shrimp and grits is a staple at papa's house. Not with all those ingredients (I'd have to put the ix-nay on the inach-spay), but we love the stuff.

Well maybe it's just the friendly night manager there that keeps 'em comin' back for more.

I went to Mecklenburg Gardens last night (the MainStrasse Goettafest got me in the mood for some good German food). I was sorely disappointed to learn that they had to take Hasenbraten off the menu because the butcher shop where they used to buy rabbit quit carrying it. Dislike. Since I posted my original list, though, I've had a few more that would be some competitors to add to this list: The Celestial, Cincinnati, OH - New York Strip Au Poivre Senate, Cincinnati, OH - Croque Madame (beef hotdog, bechamel, black forest ham, brioche bun & poached egg) with a side of duck fat fries. The duck fat fries are INCREDIBLE. Scotti's, Cincinnati, OH - Scallopini Ala Sporti (veal layered with Italian ham, eggplant, and mozzarella, all in tomato sauce)

I've also had burgers from White Castle, as mentioned by rockmom, but I don't know that I'd list that very high up on my favorite dishes from Greater Cincinnati or Louisville.

Moby Dick is for lunch, when you don't have time to get something better. My list is SO OLD now. Stan's Fish Sandwich has shut down and a TON of restaurants I frequent have opened since. For Fish Sandwich: The Fish House on Winter Avenue is now the go-to spot. Bluegrass Brewing Company now has added some style to their hamburgers; you can get them in several styles (Bluegrass style is my favorite: burger topped with pimiento cheese, country ham, tobacco onions and a fried green tomato). Apart from Shenanigans, that's now my favorite spot when I'm craving a burger. And of course Hammerhead's has opened since then. Great burgers; get the Grippo fries. A place called El Taco Luchador opened just a couple weeks ago in the Baxter Avenue location recently vacated by the now food-truck-only Lil' Cheesers. Unreal Mexican food. Only had it once but my meal was OUTSTANDING.

February 24, 201412 yr Limited choices in and around Maysville, but here are a few. I'v not included selections from the chains. Caproni's - Grilled lamb chops Caproni's - Spaghetti and meatballs Chandler's - Pulled pork BBQ Delite's - Gyro and Greek salad deSha's - Chili and cornbread deSha's - Hot Brown Mi Camino Real - Lunch special #1 with poblano pepper Moyer's Winery (up the river just a few miles) - Chicken Livers Pasquale's - Super hoagie, stromboli Is Mi Camino Real the joint next to the Movie Theater? We eat there every year on Friday night during Chippeways -- really like that place. DeSha's is our Saturday evening dinner that weekend, while it isn't as good as the one across from Rupp, it gets the job done.
February 24, 201412 yr One to add to the list....Fried Chicken Sandwich (or just regular old Fried Chicken) from The Eagle.

In Bardstown, some faves are: Mammy's Kitchen — the Cinnabon pancake in the morning, the meatloaf lunch special on Thursdays. BJ's Steakhouse — the grilled pork chops, and they have a good reuben for lunch. Rebecca's Pepperoni Grill — 19" Meat Madness with pepperoni, sausage, bacon and meatballs — you can eat all week on it. Hilltop Inn — great cheeseburgers Pat's Place has good fried chicken
