I'm not a stark trek fan by any means...would I need to know anything about Star Trek to like this movie?

Nope, you could still enjoy it.

I thought it was great.

I cracked up at a video on The Onion that said Star Trek fans were bashing the movie as "Fun, Watchable" in stark contrast to recent offerings.

I may actually go watch this in the theaters. I never have for a Star Trek film, but I'm a big JJ Abrams fan, and that he's directing this is a big boost in my eyes.

I don't think you would have to know anything about the series to enjoy the movie. I never have been a big Trek fan, but I really enjoyed this movie.

 That's hilarious.

Same for me, although I know people that refuse to see it because JJ Abrams is doing it.

For anyone who has seen it, does Simon Pegg do a good job?

Really good movie, you need to know the background of the show to enjoy. However my wife and I enjoyed and laughed at a lost of places that my son (who has never seen the TV show) though something was wrong with us. Couple of shockers in the Trek crews past that I didn't see coming. Over all very good movie.

I heard some interviews and I think Abrahms didn't know anything about Star Treck. He had turned it down but once he read the script he said he had a chance to get people like himself to love it. I wasn't a big Star Treck fan although I loved The Wrath of Kahn when I was little. They say it's a really good movie though.

It was a decent enough movie and it deserves some positive accolades. If you are not a fan of Star Trek but would be intrigued by it this is probably the movie for you.

The concept of what they did with the time-line is not particularly clever but it is about the only way you can get this kind of story without infuriating the initial fan base.

I thought it was well cast and Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy was quite possibly the best casting decision they made. Simon Pegg as Scotty was good as well.

Abrams did have his "I made a monster movie" moment which I guess was because he couldn't resist.

They left things open for sequels which was good because there is room for development with the characters.

I was surprised by how much I liked this movie...I had the opportunity to see it in an IMAX Theater down in Nashville...and talk about a great place to watch a movie...the sound and color was really impressive. And I agree with the poster who said that the casting for Dr. McCoy "Bones" was right on...he was my favorite in the new movie as he brought not only comic relief but also some keen insight on things. All in all I was impressed with the new movie, and I was not a huge trekkie growing up...but it was a good remake and I look forward to seeing if they make a sequel to expand on the characters.

Really enjoyed this movie when I saw it last night, I thought all of the new actors worked really well in their respective roles and the movie had everything you could want from a summer blockbuster. Even my girlfriend who despises most movies I drag her to enjoyed this one. You definitely don't have to have any prior knowledge of Star Trek, but I think it helps and makes it a little more enjoyable. I would give it 4.5 stars.

I saw it last night as well and I am by far a "Trekkie", but I really enjoyed the movie. The graphics were awesome and it had it's own version of how Kirk became a commander. I thought it was very interesting, but I will tell you...a movie has to really blow for me not to enjoy it!
