May 7, 200917 yr The "D" will be much improved, but I feel the "O" is in decline. The "O" certainly isn't on the level of the playoff season, but it's not going to be as bad as last year. If Palmer can stay healthy, it will be better. They've still got work to do on that side of the ball, but they have the two most important pieces. 1. Franchise QB 2. Franchise LT (assuming Smith pans out, which I must do at this point) They've got some pieces in place to have a decent offense. Considering the nightmare that Cincinnati has endured the last two or three years, they've done a good job of positioning themselves to get back in contention. With the way things are in the NFL these days, it wouldn't surprise me if they made a push this year. But, more likely, they're still a year or two away. This team is just two or three key pieces away from being pretty darn good.
May 7, 200917 yr Palmer has not been the same since the 05 season. Coles is a downgrade over TJ. The top running back is considered a draft bust. Benson showed some promise last season. He may or may not pan out. Thomas Jones was once considered a draft bust until he got in the right situation. Regardless, I think Cincy is building for 2010 or 2011. They can use this year to see what they have in Benson and determine whether RB needs to become a top priority, or a position that needs depth. I like what they're doing right now. I expect them to rely more on defense and running the football next season. They have to protect Palmer.

May 7, 200917 yr Roy is a solid pickup. He's not an every down safety, but he is a hard hitter. He can't make plays on the ball, but he can be a nice player. I would say the Bengals probably think he is still a Pro Bowler though.

May 7, 200917 yr The main thing the Bengals need is pressure on the QB, if they get that then it will make all the DB's on this team look good. I still think they are a bit thin at CB, but the crop of safeties they have now look pretty good.
May 7, 200917 yr People fell in love with him in college & he brings a certain toughness with him that the Bengals have been lacking. Call him horrible, call him fat, call him what you will. The fact remains that Roy Williams went to 5 pro bowls under Mike Zimmer. He must have been doing something right. Anyone and everyone that has watched Roy Williams more than just on sports center knows he's not anywhere near as good as advertised. If he was, the Cowboys wouldn't have let him go so easily.
