Once again, you're missing the point. Williams is being brought in as a back up. And your argument about the Cowboys letting him walk doesn't hold much water, considering they let TO walk as well. Unless he's not as good as advertised.

 

 

Robert Geathers is a solid DE, but was hurt most of last year. Hence the poor numbers. He had 2.5 sacks in 11 games. Not overly impressive, but not too horrible.

 

In '07, Geathers had 3.5 sacks in 16 games, but I think that was the year he played linebacker...

 

In '06, Geathers had 10.5 sacks in a reserve role...

 

 

 

No doubt that Tank Johnson is more of a run stuffer. Fortunately, that's exactly what the Bengals need. :thumb:

Did you miss the part about Geathers being hurt? He was injured virtually all year. It's difficult to produce when you're not healthy. I don't expect him to get 10+ sacks, but I think he's a very capable pass rusher. Also, Antwan Odom should be back & healthy again this year. He only played in 12 games last season, with 3 sacks. In 2007, the healthy Odom had 8 sacks.

 

By no means do the Bengals have all-pro DE's. But I'm a big Robert Geathers fan. I'm hoping that Odom can have a healthy season & Johnson can make a splash when utilized.

 

I don't have a problem with the $$ they gave Coles. Free Agents aren't exactly flocking to Cincinnati. They had to do something and they had hoped to use most of that $$ to re-sign TJ. When that didn't work out, they pursued Coles as Plan B.

A really good DB against the run, but his nick name should be toast for his coverage skills.

1. First off, I was never a Lee Flowers fan. Was glad when the team let him go.

 

2. As for Joey Porter being overrated... All he did last year was Lead the AFC in sacks and second overall. Not to mention he was a finalist for Defensive player of the year... Don't you wish you were that overrated? I wish I was... :clap:

Everyone plays hurt in the NFL...that's no excuse.

I disagree. If you are hurt but are still playing, obviously you and your team feels like you can play at a high level otherwise you would be resting.

 

Being hurt and being injured are very different IMO. Like I said before, many players play hurt and still produce good numbers.

No doubt the Bengals defense looks better on paper, but the must be able to get to the QB. 17 sacks is a joke, Odom, Geathers and company must step it up a notch. Zimmer seems very happy to have Williams, it's clear that Roy was better in the 4-3, and playing in the box, plus he's a good character guy.
