May 3, 200917 yr It hasn't been the same for me since I watched this happened on June 9, 1973. I watched it live on tv and it made my 15th birthday very special. Edited May 3, 200917 yr by nWo
May 3, 200917 yr That video is awesome. I wish I could have been alive then. I also hope I get to see another Triple Crown winner.
May 3, 200917 yr I remember watching that race live (on TV) and thinking to myself that "this horse (Secreteriat) is going to drop dead," after going 3/4 in 1:09. Sham tried to go with him against those fractions and finished far, far, up the track. Secretariat was indeed a super horse. When he died, an autopsy showed that his heart was twice the size of a normal thoroughbred, which probably somewhat allowed him to keep going at that rapid pace for so long.
May 3, 200917 yr About 10 of us guys were watching the ESPN special they did to the 100 greatest athletes. Sec was one of them. Every single one of us cried lol!
May 3, 200917 yr Author "He's moving like a tremendous machine!" one of the best sports catch phrases ever.
May 3, 200917 yr Author Here's his Preakness Race. He starts dead last. For those who have never seen this watch the first turn!
May 3, 200917 yr Author That has to be one of the most dominate sports performances ever.. I agree. As I've said earlier watching a horse race after watching Secretariat in 1973 wasn't the same.
May 3, 200917 yr Insane, it sounds like Sham was a heck of a horse in his own rights. What were Secretariats odds in the 3 races?
May 3, 200917 yr Insane, it sounds like Sham was a heck of a horse in his own rights. What were Secretariats odds in the 3 races? Sham never raced again after that. I believe that Secretariat was 1-10 in the Belmont.
