8 years? No, remember Vogel (sp?). He got a scholarship to Pennsylvania (Ivy League) if I'm not mistaken.

Votel. Correct. 2005 grad.

Tierney/Noll 2006

Jacobs 2007

How long has it been since CovCath hasn't had one standout player? My guess is 8+ years.

It's been well over 10 years; however, CovCath's strength has never been individual talent, but team play.

Does Holmes really have the top 3 players in the region without question? Pittman and R. Johnson are no doubt top talent in the state. I dont know much about J. Johnson but seems like to me someone else might be in that 3rd spot.

Not sure I would say J. Johnson is the third best, but he is probably top 5. R. Johnson and Pittman are without a doubt 1 and 2.

There is no doubt Holmes has the top 3 players in the 9th region. Pittman & R. Johnson are 1st team all state and J. Johnson will be 2nd or 3rd team by pre-season. I don't see any other 9th region kids getting nominated for 1st, 2nd or 3rd team all state.

Maybe unlikely, but if another team is able to upset Holmes and get to the state tourney, you never know.

Who else would you consider better than J. Johnson? Outside of R. Johnson and Pittman, there isn't a more talented player in nky.

Holmes and Highlands should be one and two in the 9th.

I would.

There is no doubt that J. Johnson is more talented than any other 9th region player excluding his brother and Pittman.

No other players in the 9th region will make one of the three all state teams.

IMO:Holmes will win the 9th region and the only team with a chance to beat them is Highlands.

Holmes and Highlands should be one and two in the 9th.

I think there will be some surprises this year in the 9th. I am not ready to second Holmes and Highlands as the one and two.

Holmes and Highlands should be one and two in the 9th.

Holmes should be the prohibitive favorite in the 9th with Highlands and Boone County as 2a and 2b in whatever order you would like. However, there is a pretty big gap between 1 & 2.

Even with that gap the regional is still a one loss and out scenario and Boone Co was a missed layup from keeping Holmes out of the state tournament this year.

I agree Holmes should be the favorite, but I think the gap is alot closer than it was last year and like you said, Boone gave them a scare last year. I think there wil leb a couple of other teams that may have give them a run for their money.

With 9th Region basketball there are always going to be upsets but I don't see a lot of other teams that have the talent and depth to compare to Holmes, Boone and Highlands over the course of the whole season.

Ryle might be next on most lists but they have some players to replace and have struggled the past couple of years as far as playing to an expectation level based on their talent.

Conner has Avery and Robinson is solid. Hodges play dropped off towards the end of the season. He needs to get stronger to maintain over a whole varsity season.

Holy Cross lost a lot thru graduation but they play a style that keeps them in a lot of games. Beechwood lost a lot as well and will struggle outside of the DIII conference.

CovCath will be inexperienced and while they should be able to get out of districts again they are not ready to challenge top three.

St Henry will be well coached as usual but will struggle replacing some talented players.

I know I am leaving some teams out off the top of my head but who is going to make that season long run and not just an upset every now and then?

I'd add Bovard(sp) 2007, and Maile was pretty good at basketball too.
