9th region

Featured Replies

There is no doubt Holmes has the top 3 players in the 9th region. Pittman & R. Johnson are 1st team all state and J. Johnson will be 2nd or 3rd team by pre-season. I don't see any other 9th region kids getting nominated for 1st, 2nd or 3rd team all state.

I agree that Holmes has 3 of the top players in the state. But i dont know about the top 3 (as in 1, 2, 3). Rico and Pittman are likely top 2, but Jeremiah may slip down a little as compared to other players. If he makes the second or 3rd team, then obviously he isnt the 3rd best. He is very good though. One of the top players, not sure about 3rd best. You could argue it that.

nevermind this. Im an idiot. we're talking about the 9th region here. yeah, these boys are probably top 3 in the 9th. Sorry.

I heard it is likely that Popp will be transferring to Ryle Highschool. Anyone know anymore on this subject?

I think that was a rumor and he will be back at Boone next year.

It would be nice to see him get more quality minutes as, having watched the kid play for years, he could be a major asset to Boone's team next year!

You're putting Thelen in the top 10 all ready? Whats the justification?

Earls and Popp are probably in the top 6-7.

Popp would be an asset to any team. I dont know what Boone was thinking last season. He should get more time this coming season.

Does the top scorer in the state last year not even get mentioned in his own region as far as a top 10 player? That's a shame, after seeing him in aau considering most of you say Bryan only scores so much against his competition is dead wrong. Last weekend at sportsplus it looked as if he was averaging about 20-25 a game and with passes that were phenominal. This year he could average as much as he wants in his conference, but wouldn't have any problem putting 30-35 on any team in the region. I also saw him up at UC and he did an amazing job stopping Justice from Shelby Co., and he's thought to be the best in the state. Without a doubt the kid can score and everyone knows that by now, but looking at his aau game from "better competition" not much has changed.

When I saw him play against one of the Shining Star teams, he must have had an off game. He only scored 6, and he wasn't able to stop the guy he was guarding.

Must have although I was not there, the games I have been to he stood out pretty well for Team KY.

We were not looking for him to do much scoring in that game, we wanted him to be a PG and concentrate on the other intangibles. He had 8 in that game including two 3 pointers, as well as several good passes. We had one 6'4 player who was on fire from the 3 that game and we were trying to get him the ball more. His best game ever could have been the night game that Saturday night, unbelievable passes!

Not taking anything away from the SS Blue, they are a very good team. But if we hold #32 down a little from his 18 point 2nd quarter (he had 22 for the game), made some uncontested lay ups, it could have been another story on the outcome.

As was stated, he held Justice from Shelby Valley, and gave him a little trouble.

I think Keith Egan of Holy Cross has to be added to the list probably somewhere in the 10-20 range. He started all of last year for HC on a team with 6 seniors and played a very big role. Not to mention the two games against Holmes he kept Pittman to single digits both games and had him frustrated the whole time.

I doubt very seriously he'd put up 30-35 on a team like Holmes, Boone, Highlands, or even possibly someone like Ryle or Conner.

He's a very good D3 player though and is hands down the best in his conference. I just wouldn't call him a top 10 player in the region.

Earls is MAYBE top 7 or 8.

Popp...very doubtful he's one of the top 6-7 players in the region. He's in the 10-15 range IMO.

Just an opinion like yours, but in what Earls and Popp bring to their teams in terms of their overall game and skills, I would put them at least at the same level as McLeash, Cotton, Pangallo, Avery, and Grote based on watching all of these boys play over the years.

In the game I saw, at Colerain MS, during the MW Hoops tournament a few weekends ago, Bryan didnt appear to have a great game. He may have scored 4-6 points while I was watching (nearly the whole game) and the defense could have been better. When Jalyn Daniels left the game, the Team Kentucky appeared to struggle a slight bit.

Make no mistake about it, Bryan is a good player, and a great scorer, but I second the notion that he could drop 30-35 on Holmes or Boone. It would be fun to see those match-ups though.

On a second note, Jalyn Daniels (I believe this is his name, not sure of the spelling), this kid was very good. He was athletic, could score and defend the paint. I was impressed.

I doubt very seriously he'd put up 30-35 on a team like Holmes, Boone, Highlands, or even possibly someone like Ryle or Conner.

Are there any players in the top ten in the 9th region who can drop 30-35 on Holmes?

Boone? Highlands? .... or even Ryle or Conner?
