9th region

I heard again today that Avery won't be at Holmes next year and he's staying at Conner.

On the other hand...I also heard that the 6'8 kid from Woodward, OH that plays AAU ball with them is now at Holmes and is playing summer ball with them. Has anyone seen Holmes recently at any team camps to confirm this?

It's the dead period. June 25 - July 9. AAU ball starts this Monday at the Adidas It Takes Five tournament. Who are the Holmes boys playing AAU ball with at the NCAA Certified tournaments? I don't think they can't play with the KY Players unless someone else coaches them.

Why couldn't they play with the Players? Why would who coaches them make a difference?

I have no idea if this pertains to the KY Players but at all NCAA certified events the coaching staffs have to go thru NCAA approved background check and I think have to pass a test. Maybe someone a little more familiar with the process can shed a little more light???

What year would the big kid from Woodward be?

I saw Holmes and do not remember anyone that tall. There is a young kid that's fairly tall that is a bit raw but may become a player.

It's either Josh or Jeremiah Chancellor that plays with the KY Players from Woodward. Josh is a junior to be and 6'7...Jeremiah is a senior to be and 6'5. Again, I don't know how true it is though that they're at Holmes. Just going on what I've heard. I guess we'll find out here soon.

As far as the younger kid that you saw, if it's not one of the above, you may be referring to David Smith. He'll be a sophomore and is probably in the 6'6-6'7 range as well.

Final answer: Demetrius Avery will not be at Conner next year. Too bad for the Cougars.

I too heard this, this morning. He won't be at Conner but where he'll end up is still in the air.

Last year they played with the Queen City Prophets.

The coach of the KY Players can't get certified to coach in these events. I'm not too sure of the reason, but I know that's why Ricardo, JJ, and Elijah played with the Prophets last year during nationals.

Lets get some top 5 discussion for 9th region basketball. State who you think will be the top 5 in the 9th region this coming season and why.

The NCAA certification requires a coach to pass a background check and take a test (which can be taken multiple times). Registration before I believe July 1st was $40.OO right now it cost $55.00. Don't ask me why the NCAA is involved in governing AAU and other select tournaments.

As far as the 9th region is concerned Holmes is obviously the TOP DAWG how could Highlands not be expected to challenge them?? Folks in Bluebird land aren't hoping to defeat them when they travel to Ft Thomas rather in late February early March when it comes Regional Tournament time. Teams like NCC, Boone and others could surprise a few teams in the districts and regional as well.

IMO the coaching change for Highlands won't be that big of a deal because

coach Flynn inherited not only a talented group of players but his players are disciplined and have great attitudes as well. Kowolonek hasn't stopped playing since the last of March. Grote will be bigger and stronger. Grubbs has shed alot of baby fat and will be leaner and quicker coming out of football. Gordon, Dill, and Watson continue to improve and are solid and versitile players. Nice to have a couple of 6-5 and 6-6 players coming off the bench.

If you are being surprised by Boone County this year... something is wrong with your schools preparation. Boone County is without a doubt going to be one of the best teams in the 9th. This should be no surprise. They are returning a few seniors (Earls, Cotton, gabbard, popp, etc.) not to mention a few good juniors (Montgomery, Brown, etc.). As long as Gabbard is on the floor, this team will have a shot, and Travis Montgomery (6'4" junior) will really surprise people this year (only because he didnt get much playing time on varsity as a sophomore).

It is my opinion that Boone County will be rivaling Highlands for the 2nd best team in NKY, both slightly behind Holmes.

Through no fault of their own if this transfer actually happens, Holmes is going to have even more people rooting against them.[/quote Nobody should root against Holmes.
