I think we'll see Dixie have their best team in quite a few years.

Boone also has some other guys in Ronald Cotton and Trevan Brown and some good younger talent just waiting to get playing time in Travis Montgomery and Cooper Downs (who should get his feet slightly wet in the varsity waters). Should be a good year for Boone County basketball.

I hope so. I think Dixie has a good foundation.

While I agree that Highlands and Boone have a shot to possibly beat Holmes, IMO it is a long shot.

I actually would say that Highlands has a better shot to beat Holmes than Boone does. Highlands has better overall talent and a much better coach.

I think it will be closer between #1 and #2 than it was last year. Heck, Boone beat Holmes once and lost by 3 in the regional championship last year after missing what could have been a game sealing layup. You never know!

Not sure how Downs gets varsity time this season. Good little guard, but Boone could have 9 to 11 seniors, and 6 of them are senior guards. I would think Gabbard, Popp, and Schulze, all seniors, would take the guard duties, while seniors Thamann and Crickmer would get spot minutes for three-point shooting, etc.

Dixie will be one of the better teams next year and the year after.

You mean 5th or 6th best this year or are you speaking of 2010 and 2011?

I know they have some Seniors and some older guys, but at some point you have to give the young man a sniff at varsity time. Up big in games, or down big in games (doubt this will happen often or at all this season). When you have the opportunity, you have to work on developing younger guys as well.

I'm speaking top 3 team in 2010 and 2011

I don't disagree with your logic, but he will only be a soph, so he will have two full years of varsity after the 2010 class graduates. Since seniors have to dress varsity, if there are say 11, that leaves only 4 spots on the bench. Which of the juniors play JV? I think Boone has about 5-6 juniors too.

Yeah, but all 11 or so seniors wont get much playing time. The 2 Juniors I can think of that should really get some playing time are Brown and Montgomery. I would think Cooper gets some time in the mid to late season in big wins. Just my opinion that it's smart to get the future some sort of experience in the Sophomore season so it's not much of a transition from JV to Varsity.

I'd look for Montgomery to take McFarland's spot.

You could be right, but remember, Boone has the confidence to beat Holmes and they know how to do it. They did it last year when many thought they wouldnt. Highlands will be good, and has a chance as well, but I do agree Holmes is still the team to beat. The old saying applies: "to be the man, you have to beat the man." With Holmes losing Riley, who had more steals and assists, and almost as many points per game as McFarland, and McFarland leaving Boone, but Popp stepping in and getting more playing time, it should be an interesting matchup.

McFarland will be missed this season because of his scoring and rebounding ability, and he took the spotlight off of some of the other guys so they could just go play. But, I think Boone will compete with Holmes this year, maybe more so than Highlands IMO.

Boone didn't beat Holmes when it mattered most. I don't see Boone or a lot of teams coming close to Holmes this year.

Holmes has much more talent than any team in the 9th.

Boone lost 2 major players in McFarland and Brown. I didn't see any players last year who will be able to replace those two.

It might possibly be a little closer between #1 & #2 this year, but #2 will be Highlands not Boone.
