Wow. You heard a rumor of Avery going to Holmes... Why would he want to do that??? I cant see him leaving Conner where he will be a stud, to possibly sit on the bench behind J. Johnson.

When I first read the post about Avery to Holmes, I was somewhat stunned. Apparently there is some truth to this rumor. Unsuspecting to me. Guess we'll see how it plays out.

I don't see how anyone can think Boone should be the favorite over Highlands next year with Highlands returning everyone from this past year and Boone losing 3 very good seniors. I also like Highlands chances a lot more against Holmes considering the game will be at Highlands, whereas Boone will have to travel to Covington.

Sure Holmes loses Riley, but they replace/reload with Kevon Arnold. I'll take Arnold over Popp any day of the week. Right now, Holmes and Highlands should be considered the two favorites with what they return. Boone is slightly behind Highlands.

I think it will be closer this year between #1 and #2 this year than last, but simply because Highlands returns their whole team and Holmes lost some key seniors. Holmes seems to reload after every year though so I wouldn't look too much in to them losing anyone.

Comparing Arnold and Popp is like comparing apples and oranges. They don't even play the same position. Boone lost 3 good seniors, and they will have at least 4 good seniors this season.

Granted Trevan Brown is more of a PF, I think he could step in and put up the same numbers as Andrew Brown. I know McFarland is a loss for this team, but IMO Popp will step in this year and have big numbers for Boone (if he stays put). Also, Montgomery should see some good minutes and he is a solid 6'3" if not 6'4" and he can shoot the ball and defend the ball (by this I mean get up and block some shots and maybe poke a few steals). I know Highlands will be good and I respect your opinion, but IMO that number 2 spot will be more tightly contested than you think. Ronald Cotton will also play a key role. They have guys that can step in and supplement for what McFarland did. McFarland was really good at "being the guy" though. Someone for Boone will have to step into that role this year. I think it should be Gabbard.

T. Brown will outrebound A. Brown and probably score in double figures several times. Montgomery and Cotton will be good shot blockers.

Not a rumor.

Doesn't Avery play on the same AAU team as Pittman and the Johnsons?

Agreed 100%

He does. The KY Players.

I think Holmes will be better this year than last. Rico Johnson probably moves to the point and everyone has another year of maturity. That team is going to be something else if they hang together and play as a team.

Avery wouldn't sit on the bench behind J. Johnson...Avery would start. If Avery has indeed decided to go to Holmes, their starting lineup would be:

R. Johnson

D. Avery

J. Johnson

K. Rice

E. Pittman

Mayfield, Slusher, and Mcclendon first three off the bench.

True...my point was, while Holmes loses Riley and D. Johnson from the starting lineup, they are reloading by inserting Rice in there and it appears Avery as well. (If I'm understanding doubledeuce correctly)

Avery is also the cousin of Braeon and BJ Avery....former Holmes players.

I have heard from multiple sources now that Avery will indeed be at Holmes next year. I am still not buying it 100% until I see him in Bulldog red. This would be a devasting blow to Conner this year.

Would be tough for Conner to lose a player of this caliber as it would tough for any team but they have some good young talent. Just provides that talent the opportunity to step up.

Agreed.

I agree with you here. I think Conner will need to get really strong play out of the three Juniors Jake Flesch, Tyler Hodges, and Clay Robinson. This is of course if Avery does leave, but now instead of his senior leadership, Flesch as the PG will have to step in and be that leader and the extension of the coach. Which is what he would have to do anyway. I think he is quite capable of that. Plus they'll have Stephens as a Senior. With Robinson in the post banging, I think he could take some pressure off Hodges to be that guy, and hopefully he'll be able to roam a little bit and play some 3/4 combo. I understand Liechty is a real hustle guy and plays good defense. I think Conner will be okay, these younger bucks are resilient and just wanna play ball.

Through no fault of their own if this transfer actually happens, Holmes is going to have even more people rooting against them.

I am a HUGE Conner fan and I would not root agaisnt Holmes for this reason. If this transfer actually takes place, I wish Mr. Avery the best of luck. He is a very talented athlete. He will be missed at Conner, but they will move on. They have an exceptionally talented junior class and still have a couple of solid seniors. I will look for Stephens to be the new go to guy and hopefully Robinson fully recovers from his shoulder surgery.

I wouldnt root against this team as a whole throughout an entire season. Maybe when they are playing a team I have a particular interest in. I think Holmes represents NKY quite well.
