Up and Coming Big Men in KY

Featured Replies

St. John is a horse with great skills. South has hid in Tn. this spring but the word is he has taken his game up a notch. He is a young kid who is still growing. Good feet and great hands to go along with his 6'9" 250 plus body.

If he improves as much from his jr to sr season as he did from his soph to jr season, ... he will be tough for anybody in KY to handle. Coach Wright and his staff have done a masterful job in helping Matt develop his game, and he has responded. He has matured and can control his emotions MUCH better, he has good footwork, and is a very good shooter with a soft touch. IMHO, you can't have a big man list regarding Ky HS basketball right now with St. John near the top.

I am also looking forward to how the Helton kid develops. He is 6'6" and an 8th grader this fall at South Middle. He is starting to gain more coordination which is tough for a 6'6" kid at that age who is growing so fast. He could be South Laurel's first 7 footer if he continues to grow. In fact, the tallest player I remember playing at Laurel Co or South Laurel was Darren Hale who was a legit 6'10" and went on to play at Morehead State.

I had a chance to see Bobby Stauffer again at the Eddie Ford HoopFest (which was a GREAT tournament) and he was doing really good things. Ryle coaches, players, and fans should be stoked about this kids ability and future. He was scoring, rebounding and defending well. He seems to have really learned how to put the ball on the floor and drive in and can really finish around the rim. HIs jumpshot seems to be improving rapidly also. Had a great game against the Derek Smith All-Stars, and led his team to a win. Someone also said that he seemed to be a "hot-head" of sorts, but that is incorrect. The boy just seems to have such a passion for the game. Lots of intensity and tenacity and that's what you want. Good for him. I hope he gets some looks.

Is this #31 for the NKY Buldlogs?

:thumb: Thats sad. Hes a high school kid and I don't know why anyone would want to get on the internet and spread rumors. What him and his family do isn't really any of our business.

I know that he plays for the NKY Bulldogs, and I think his number is 31. I dont really pay attention to the numbers in AAU basketball. I just look for local players that I have seen on a highschool team before. All though, I do think I recall his number being 31. The kid is a stud IMO.

How big is he? Are they going anywhere else this summer? I didn't get a chance to see him play this weekend?

Number 31 for the Bulldogs is Bobby Stauffer. He is a 6'6" forward that plays high school ball for Ryle High School in union, KY. This kid can play. He will be with the Bulldogs in Louisville this weekend for the Bluechip Exposure and then in Ft. Wayne for USSSA nationals.

Before the AAU summer started, Jody Demling had Bobby Stauffer pegged as a young player to watch out for this summer. He has not disappointed in any game that I have seen him in. He just works hard and can do a lot on the floor. If he contintues to develop that 10-13 ft jump shot, he'll be hard to stop.

I saw this kid play this past week at Hoopfest. He plays with a tremendous amount of emotion. If he can channel that into something positive he will be a very good ball player.
