Walking:

Featured Replies

Does anyone on here does any walking?

I do my morning walk (weather permitting) everyday for about 40-45 minutes.

Its helps to keep my blood presure down, and its also helps to strengthen my right hip and leg.

Walking is just a good exercise and we all should be doing more of it.

I have started doing three miles...I walk a tenth I run a tenth...Kind of makes it fun that way...

I don't mind walking, it's just too boring.

I do much better with exercise since I got a stationary bike. I do about an hour to 1:15 a day, five days a week. Works out pretty good because I can do it in the garage, and listen to records and watch TV all at once.

Nah, I like the built-in water breaks. :D

But I wouldn't mind a r2r, though.

I walk about 2 miles a day with my dog. On the weekends though, we walk 7-10 miles, depending on the weather. I love walking! I've recently started refining my walks to get greater benefit. I make sure there are hills and steps. I've started running up the steps on our walks. I really have started trying to pay attention to my "form" when I walk too. It's the best excercise! I, unlike Jim Shue, hate anything that requires me to stay in one place. Stationary bike, treadmill...they'd all just be clothes hangers in my house. :D

My daily walk covers anywhere from three to five miles and like RM, I detest the bad weather days that force me to use the threadmill. I vary my routes and try to walk somewhere interesting. It makes the time go by much faster and I learn more about my community.

My employer offers a program through Virgin Health, and for $5 a month we are given a pedometer to register our steps. You get points for acheiving certain milestones per day. The points add up and you can get some very nice gifts. Last year I registered enough to get $275 in gift certificates which I used at Best Buy. I would highly recommend a pedometer for those who walk, it motivates me to get out and walk, at least 7K in the winter and during the summer 10-12K is my goal.

Going to start walking a lot more. Walked my little beagle for about 1.5 miles this afternoon, didnt think her fat butt was gonna make it, she was so tired by time we got home. Then I walked 9 holes tonight in my golf league so I got quite a bit in today. Think Im going to start walking everytime I play golf to save money and get some exercise in.

There are two people from my county that have been walking 5 miles per day for over 30 years. One of them walks in the early morning hours, rain, snow, or sunshine. The other walks in the late evening. They are two of the most dedicated people I know, as well as healthy.

I used to walk 2 miles through the weekdays, but it's been several years. I lost 30 pounds within a year and never felt better in my life. Now I have gotten lazy and don't do it anymore. I need to start again. About 5 years ago I had to go on blood pressure medication. Maybe walking would help me in that area.

It's not so much that I want to stay in one place. It's more of a practicality thing. With my work schedule, I have to fit in a workout when I can. And I'm not the kind of guy who can go on a one-hour walk and come right back to the office. A shower is most always a must, for my personal comfort and my co-workers' nostrils.

Plus, I did a lot of walking in Bardstown before I got the bike, so I've seen everything already.

Now that the weather is nice again I am starting to walk outside , treadmill boring.

Walking was a huge part of my weight loss plan. (I've recenly lost 130 lbs.). I wear a pedometer everywhere and try to get at least 10000 steps every day. I did treadmill and elliptical this winter and am loving getting outside.
