Please allow me answer your questions with a couple of my own. What School in 6A had the most wins next to T/X? What School beat both Male and Ballard last season? What School beat every team on its schedule, except the 6A State Champs? Answer these and you might find the most logical candidate.

I don't think so. There line woes continue and it has been a few years since they had the QB to get the ball to their abundance of skill players.

 

 

 

SK finished the regular season 6-4 in '08 and got on a roll in the playoffs. I believe Ryle/Boone will be ahead of them in 2009.

 

Ballard was a powerhouse in the mid 80's when Bob Redmon was on the sidelines. They have been nothing more than an also-ran since Redmon left and I look for that to continue.

 

 

I like Manual as the one team that can take down Trinity/X. They have the talent and I think Nichols is one of the better coaches in Ky.

 

SK did get on a roll after a 6-4 regular season, and Ryle and Boone both will be strong but the NKY district is wide open, 1-4 should be very entertaining. If Conner can run the ball they very well be the most balanced offensive team in NKY.

It will be tough for SK to repeat what they did, but as long as they have Miles Simpson anything is a possibility. He's the type of player that can flat take over!

I'm completely not buying Bryan Station as a contender. Since 1999 they continually get less out of their talent than anyone in Lexington. No one produces D-1 talent like Station and then underperforms. They play one good half against Highlands and then everyone jumps on the band wagon.

 

I don't jump on any bandwagons. By the way,I was at the HHS and BS game,(APPARENTLY YOU WERE NOT) and they played excellent the whole game. They were a young team last year,and I know they have a lot of returning starters. They have both size ,speed and a very deep team (you said it yourself D1 talent) . It sounds like a receipe for a major upset. IMO this is their year that they will get it done.This thread asked for a SLEEPER 6A team and BS is my choice. One more thing, I don't root for BS, I ride the Highlands band wagon,since I was born and raised in Ft. Thomas and a grad there. Good luck to your team if you do play BS,YOUR GOING TO NEED IT.

I agree with that they will need more than just him. In order for a RB to take over the line is going to have to atleast get in the way of the D. However was basically saying they won't just roll over and let Boone and Ryle take the crown this year.

Bryan Station was not a young team. far from it. Apparently you don't study your opponents. Also there is no reason to take offense, I've seen Bryan Station play more times than probably 99.9 % on this board. Bryan Station lost A TON from last year, that is fact. With all that D-1 talent they won 6 games. You are not the only one talking them up, many people have been jumping on the band wagon, I just don't see it.

 

They lost Philon, Suter, Childrey, McCann, Blackburn, Saifullah, Cornett and many others this will be a rebuilding year for them, Scott Co. is the team to beat in that weight class.

I hate to be the negative nelly, but none of these teams have a shot of touching X or T.

 

If we are looking for who will be number 3, I think a team that has a shot is Scott County. Coach McKee always has those guys ready. I hope that one of the Lexington teams can step up as well.

Eastern was good last year.

 

They will be BETTER this year.

 

Seneca, Eastern, and Trinity...the 4th-place team in our district could actually end up being a top-10 team next year. I know we'll at least all be "battle-tested" come playoff time!

I believe Eastern will have a new quarterback due to graduation. But the Davis kid is awesome, and will carry the load

Seneca -- Didn't lose much of anybody. GREAT quarterback coming back -- maybe best "dual threat qb" in US for his class. Lots of fast receivers that had VERY good hands last year. There's a D-1 tall kid on that team coming back that was good on defense last year.

 

Eastern -- Again, didn't lose much off a very good team...though I was a BIG fan of their qb and their DL kids (not upset some of those guys aren't coming back). If they can replace the QB with someone that makes as few mistakes and knows how to get the ball to his playmakers and they find a couple DL kids to replace the VERY good ones that graduated (especially #55), they'll be tough again.

 

Trinity -- Nothing really needs to be said. Solid everywhere.

 

Ballard -- rebuilding year after losing 18 offensive or defensive starting positions. Kids are still getting stronger though. Lots of questions to answer before I can make any kind of prediction about this team.

Oppenheimer, a sophmore, stepped in and gained good yardage to close out the season. Boone will have one of the top running back duos in the state this year, and will be able to pass with the return of their QB from last year. SK is the team to beat right now, no doubt. Looking forward to an exciting football season in 6A.

The issue here is "able" vs. "willing".

 

They return their quarterback who is "able" to pass, but is their coaching staff "willing" to pass the ball in an effort to gain a balance on offense?
