April 18, 200917 yr UNC:National Champs 05' and 09'. ACC Champs: 07'08 Duke:National Champs 01' ACC Champs-200-2003, 05' 06' 09' I am talking about in the national spotlight such as winning these objectives. UK hasn't won a NC since 98' and only 3 SEC championships in 01',03' and 04' ACC titles don't make up for the lack of NCAA wins recently.
April 18, 200917 yr ACC titles don't make up for the lack of NCAA wins recently. Says who? UK fans....sure, whatever, you're right, the ACC titles mean nothing....... Win an SEC championship and then see if Xavier Henry knows who you guys are, then come and talk about the importance of ACC titles.
April 18, 200917 yr Says who? UK fans....sure, whatever, you're right, the ACC titles mean nothing....... I'm waiting for a response to post 73. Nobody said that they don't mean anything, but Duke's lake of NCAA success in the recent years is pretty glaring for Duke.
April 18, 200917 yr Duke has almost become irrelevant over the past 4 years or so. Sure they're a solid top 15 program, but not the team that was a serious title contender year in, year out like they once were. Same can be said for UK over the past decade.

I thought Duke was a program that was beyond measuring their success by conference titles...:idunno:
April 18, 200917 yr UK has claimed stats like that before, but you are missing the point. Who are the STARS in the NBA from Duke? I don't know what kind of point you are trying to make. Who are the stars and where are they from? The 4 biggest stars came from high school, high school, Marquette and Wake Forest. What is your point? The point I was trying to make is that kids know who is in the NBA and the fact that Duke has 14 guys in the NBA, more than any other school, brings in recognition to Duke University which in turn makes Duke more recognizable than UK. That was the point I was trying to make. Don't act like Duke isn't more recognizable than UK at this point... is what I am trying to say. There have been other threads devoted to this conversation and while I would love to discuss it, I am not going to get this thread closed down because of your closed mindedness to Duke basketball. Facts are facts. Regardless of recent lack of success in the NCAA tourney, Duke is still one of the top 3 most recognizable schools in college basketball. You don't have to like it or agree with it for that matter, but it is a fact. Everybody hates Duke, that's why they are so recognizable.
April 18, 200917 yr ACC titles don't make up for the lack of NCAA wins recently. These title game put these teams in the national spotlight. ACC championship is usually on ESPN or some nationally seen channel. These are the game that big recruits watch. These are why kids now know who Duke and UNC are and some history behind them because they grew up watching them win.
April 18, 200917 yr And this is the point where Duke fans and UK fans separate themselves. Pay close attention. In the last 5 years, Duke has had one team that was capable of winning it all and that was JJ and Shelden's senior year. They lost to LSU in the Sweet 16 when Tyrus Thomas completely shut down JJ. With the exception of that year, no Duke team has been good enough to win the national championship, or make it out of the first round, or the Sweet 16. Duke fans understand this, we don't panic. We look forward to the day when Coach K rights the ship because he will. If he doesn't, so be it, things will get better at some point, but Duke basketball is such a hated entity by any and everyone that the hatred for Duke will allow the program to always have some sort of mystique around it. Have the last few years been down by Duke(or outsiders) standards, yes, but these teams have also achieved to the point they were supposed to achieve to. No Duke fan will say they were disappointed with this year. This year was progress. If Henderson stays, then a realistic Duke fan is expecting the Elite 8 at least next year. Coach K has won more national titles than any coach and Duke has won more national titles than any school since 1990. It is so hard to win a national championship and to look at each year as a failure because you didn't win it all is unrealistic. Realistically looking at your team year in and year out and getting the most out of that team is all that you can ask for. Why do you think we want John Wall so badly? Losing out on top 10 recruits because Duke doesn't embrace 1 and dones is a testament to how Duke does things at the school and whatever route they decide to go I will wholeheartedly support because no one can take away any of the past accomplishments and there is no reason to believe that just because the last 5 years haven't been that great, that things won't improve. College basketball is cyclical and always has been. 1991, 1992, 2001 are national championship years. By my math, there could be another one looming around the corner in the next few years.

April 18, 200917 yr Kentucky: "I don't know anything about the program's history, but I do know Calipari is the coach. Cal has a feel for building a program. He makes you already feel a part of the program and wants you to succeed. He'll tell you honestly if you are ready for the NBA."[/url] I read something or other about UK winning a basketball game or two in their history. Also, can you confirm whether or not Paul McCartney was in a band prior to Wings?
