April 7, 200917 yr I realize that Sabathia usually starts the season off slow, but the Yankee fans couldn't have been too happy yesterday.

I wouldn't have started him yesterday if it wasn't for his dominance of Baltimore.
April 7, 200917 yr Not too good of a return on that investment yet. Given the mileage on his arm, his lack of conditioning and the length of that contract I can't see it being a good deal the last 3-4 years of the contract. He's got to win an awful lot of games to justify $161 Million. He struggled at the beginning of the year last year but his lack of velocity and the fact that he had zero strikeouts has to be alarming for Yankee fans.

Agreed, his fastball was just non-existent
April 7, 200917 yr I'm a Yanks fan and think it's ridiculous to be all over those guys yet lol! It's one game! Tex will be just fine I think. CC's fastball was 2 miles slower than opening day last year. Now I don't live in Balt but I know it was really cold in KY yesterday..going to go on a limb and say it wasn't real easy to get loose yesterday! Tex and CC aren't my worries with the Yanks.

Check out Giambi's stats prior to joining the Yanks, then check out Tex. Almost identical

It was 58 degrees yesterday in Baltimore.....Not exactly a frozen tundra.
April 7, 200917 yr Sabathia was awful last April, too ... and he turned out OK. One start does not a season make.
April 7, 200917 yr Sabathia was awful last April, too ... and he turned out OK. One start does not a season make. True, but he was only 6-8 3.83 ERA with the Indians and only faced an 2 AL East teams all season (Yankees and Blue Jays once each). He really made hay against the NL. He's pitching the the AL East full time this season--it'll be interesting to see how he performs against those offenses.

For some reason he just takes a little bit to get going. CC will be fine.
