How has he been playing in the passing scrimmages? Are Vorbeck and O'Kuma going to play? Not only are they both good overall players, but I would assume that one or the other would also kick this year as well.

His play is fair but with reps I think he will be fine. Vorbeck is not playing and he would be a big help.O'Kuma looks pretty good on D not getting whole lot of reps on offense I think he will play that middle linebacker.

I would think that Nick Mills, Nick Howington, Brady Foley, Mitchell Frederick would all seeing some major playing time this season. I am not sure how many other Sophomores are left on the team now? I have heard rumors of less than forty five total players might be the entire Redhound squad this season.

Where have all the sophomores and players in general gone, 45 is a workable number of players, but leaves no room for injuries.

I think Brody Jones, Tommy Bailey and Derek Mahan also are still playing and would be in the 10th grade. It appears, injuries, lack of interest, etc have taken it toll on this class. Corbin usually has around 55 to 60 players on the team each year. Numbers may pick up once offical practice starts after the dead period. A lot of kids are not used in the passing scrimmages along with commitments to summer baseball, basketball and of course family vacations.

For a 2A team, 50-55 is a pretty big squad. I would like to see Corbin dress around 60 players. However, I can remember as a kid that you could confuse Corbin for a 4A school based on the players they had. I hope we can get back to that. With the times, it seems as if kids have forgotten how big of a deal football is to this community. I hope that can be nipped in the bud before all interest leaves.

Everyone has their theories about what has caused the change in attitude, but I would suggest looking for answers from schools like Highlands, New Cath, Beechwood, etc.....those that have sustained the interest for many years and maintained a high level of play as well. I wonder what these teams have done differently to keep the athletes motivated year after year?

Winning Big and Having Fun along the way would be my top guess as to how these programs keep their kids motivated and wanting to play. There are so many other things today for kids to be involved with. Kids do not play the game for the same reasons. I would say the smart approach is not the one size fits all mentality.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the way times have changed. With this generation being more of a technological world, kids find video games, internet, etc as more entertaining. Also I think a lot of kids these days probably have the mindset that only 11 players can be on the field at a time, so why should I bust my tail to stand on the sidelines. If kids could see that being part of such an illustrious tradition and on a team that is nearly always successful, they would be surprised at the fun they could have.

 

I know at lot of people may say Coach Jewell and Coach Farris are too strict, tough on the kids, yada, yada, yada but those guys love each and every kid out there. People forget that this is also part of their job and as with any job, they must do what they feel best to be successful. I can promise you that if the kids that take the benchwarmer mentality, would work hard to learn and impress the coaches, they would play. Any fine coach (and Corbin has some good ones) would love to have depth. I'm sure their peers that are getting beat up playing both ways would enjoy having a break as well.

I have watch these guys for awhile. All 4 have come to be very good players. Mills and Howington from what I hear are doing good in the weight room. Mills benching 295,Howington benching 270. Foley and Frederick has gain alot of speed since last year. I think all 4 will see alot of playing time this year and will help the team this year.

When Campbell graduated, they lost an awfully big weapon, ... not just as a back, but as a kicker. If Vorbeck can kick like his dad did at Laurel Co years ago, that will be a big plus. I think his dad was one of the last straight on kickers.
