We will be fine-I would rather have a 200 to 210lb lineman that will move his feet and get after you than a 270lb lineman that stands there. Our backs will block and make a hole. I would say that we will pass the ball around 40% of the time, thats my guess.

 

If the line can acomplish all that you mentioned then this group should be able to advance a long way in the playoffs. Injuries need to stay away from the team as well for this to happen. I agree an active line is better than a huge line that can not move at all. Conditioning will be a big factor as well since many of these players will be counted on to play both sides of the ball. Depth seems to be the deciding factor for a trip to the carpet.

I think the Hounds open up with a much improved Harlan Dragon team @ Harlan. This could be a difficult game for the Hounds. This should be the best Dragon team in the past several years. They will be big up front and return two hard running backs in Link and Pennington. Look for the Hounds to pull this one off late due to depth.

What Newberry lacks in size, he makes up for with great feet.

Lewallen needs to have a good year. He is a senior and could be a leader for this team. Mills is still a soph and has been the same size since 7th grade. He needs to learn how to play against people his own size and strength. Once he does this he can be a good lineman for the Hounds. How is Nick Howington looking? I thought he would battle Morris hard at Center this year? Is Manns moving to Tackle? Perhaps he would make a good pulling guard instead. With his size 6'3 285 I am sure a bunch of colleges are sending him mail. I know Lindsey Wilson was hot on his trail early in the summer. I am sure Union and Cumberland will be attending his games to see his progress as well. He could make an immediate impact for the Blue Raiders who are just starting their program. Has Watkins signed Division I yet? I know Wofford offered. Has he heard anything from a bigger schools? Joker and Rich maybe missing another...ala Fugate of Breathitt. At 6'1 209 and running the times reported here, he would seem a lock for SEC or ACC. If the Hounds can put all the talent together they seem like a trip to the carpet is not out of the question. Lewallen and Mills will do good, Lewallen has a big heart and Mills is a big and strong young man. Nick Howington is 195-200Lbs and will get after people. He will probably play guard. Manns is still at tightend, I'm not sure he is 285 just yet, probably more like 275. He has some schools that are very interested and I think they told him that they wanted to see him play some line this year. Signing day is not until Feb., schools can offer now and kids can make verbal commitments, but that is all. 3 to 4 schools told Watkins they wanted to see some senior film of the first couple of games, so he is still on the radar. Wofford has made an offer and they seem to really want him. Right now he just wants to enjoy his senior year and help his team out all he can. Honestly I'm glad its not like the old days because schools have changed so much, if there was one class we know who they winner would be every year. I hope we can get there this year and our players need need to believe that they can! :thumb:

Kyle Craig has transferred to Whitley County and I do not know were Farley is on the depth chart right now.

I would say that Harlan will be up for this game and it will be a big advantage with it being played there. I certainly do not expect the Hounds to overlook anyone this year. I believe we are going to have some hungry players(dogs if you will), this year and some upperclassmen who want to leave the program as winners. I watched Harlan scrimmage Middlesboro in the Grid last year and they had some nice looking players. May both teams have a ball!!:thumb:

Craig's dad thinks his kids should be starters no matter that the young men that the coaches are putting on the hardwood or on the football fields are so much better than they are.I have seen this for many years with him and with many other parents. But parents have got to understand these coaches are out to win state championships not to make parents happy.I would love for my kid to play all the time but I undestand how it works. His sister is a good basketball player look to see her name in the papers alot.

She played 7th grade at Whitley last year, if she is the big girl about 5'10".

I hope the young man gets a chance at the next level (Manns). The fact remains that Corbin, although they have a history of sending athletes to the next level, is not a college prep school...by that I mean that the coaches will do what is best for this team. They will place people in positions that will benefit the team's progress toward winning another state title. College football is not at the top of their list of concerns. If the young man can play...he will move on. Not very many high school kids play the same position once they reach a campus anyway. So to say he should be moved because his college stock would be improved is ludicrous. The team and their goals come first...it is a we proposition, not a me proposition. Players must be goal oriented with the most immediate concern...their senior football season...if it goes well colleges will take notice and they will take the next step if they are so fortunate. Best of luck to all of these prospects, but don't lose sight of your high school season, team, and goals because they will have passed too soon.
