Funny how the same scenario played out in '82 and '83 the other way until UK finally broke through and UL got the last second tip on Arkansas to bring us the first (and really only) DREAM GAME.

Seems like some people think it's "cool" to hate/disagree/taunt Wildcat fans on this site. I think it's old, really.

Hate? Negative. Taunt? Not even close. Disagree? You betcha. You and others just perceive it as "hate" and "taunting" because it doesn't jive with your worldview. If there wasn't so much outlandish crap coming out of the mouths of the 18-percenters (conservative estimate), we wouldn't have to call them out and bring them back to reality.

Actually Terry Howard, who had not missed a FT all year, missed the front end of a 1 and 1. That led to Richard Washington's baseline jumper and win for Wooden.

I think it would have been a great one.

 

UL was very, very athletic in '75 and ahead of the curve in their style. They were better than that UCLA squad. Allen Murphy, Wes Cox, Junior Bridgeman to name a few.

 

UK was on a tremendous roll and were big for their day (2 6'10" centers and a 6'9" rebounding forward in Guyette) plus they had Kevin Grevey and a deep bench. UK was hurt in the UCLA game by the tight officiating that would not allow the Cats to be as physical as they had been up to that game and that would have been a key.

 

I would love to have seen that contest though and it would have been an even bigger hype than what would become the DREAM GAME. :thumb:

Basically, that is what Greg Doyel said in his article. I don't agree with it as there is too much parity anymore for any team to just dominate the landscape they way UK did for portions of Rupps time or UCLA did in Wooden's run of 10 titles. It ain't gonna happen.

 

I also don't believe UL is afraid of anyone, and they shouldn't be with what Pitino has built there. This actually makes the UK/UL game more exciting again with a new storyline.

There you go lumping 'most' Wildcat fans together. You can't stereotype all or most UK fans because of the comments of the vocal few. I have tons of UK fans for friends and very few are as arrogant as you paint 'most' UK fans. Don't let your disgust for UK fans blind you on this one. Go back and count the UK fans on this board alone and then count how many DIFFERENT ones have made those comments. Many are the same posters.

 

If the loonies weren't so vocal, it wouldn't seem like "most." I guess you guys need to police yourselves and keep the nutjobs in line, since everybody hates it so much when an "outsider" is the one keeping them honest.

 

And to your last point, ... what is wrong with someone just being a UK fan? I see nothing wrong with having your fandom linked to one institution at all. I agree that some posters seem to believe that UK will start winning title after title after title now, ... but the majority of us know that ain't gonna happen. But there's really no need to lump all UK fans together in this way, ... why not just address those who make the outlandish comments instead of stereotyping us all together.

 

I have no problem with anyone being a fan of just one team, no matter who it is. My comment spoke more to my suspicion that most/many/a very big lot (pick whatever term suits you) of the UK fan base are not fans of college basketball in general — the game itself, not any other particular team — just UK fans.

This is quickly approaching dead horse territory, IMO.

I'm a Kentucky fan and I love the enthusiasm around the program right now. I have grown tired of the threads both supporting UK, bashing UK, and speaking of how the rest of college basketball is scared, though.

It just feels like taunting because Wildcat fans seem to take every comment not supporting UK as a personal insult, as though it were on par with smacking around their mommas. If I were interested in taunting UK fans, I would have been filling up UK loss threads over the past few years with witty comments like "UK sucks," and stuff like that, as well as running down UK in UofL game threads and lording it over them during the last few wilderness years for UK hoops. I think you'll find that pretty much all my comments in game threads trend toward straight analysis, if you're willing to do the research.

I have stated that some coaches are worried about what is going on at UK, but I kept it to the other SEC schools. If UK lands some of the big name recuits Wall,Cousins, et al.,in Cal's first year and they don't see the writing on the wall, then UK may be back to total dominance in the SEC. As for for UL they should not be worried about UK, heck they have the BEAST to deal with. The UK game while fun to watch and discuss, is just another game on the schedule in the beginning/middle of the season. Conference games matter.

Jim, surely you had to expect a little overboardness (if that's a word) once UK signed a coach that brings in NBA talent in the A-10 and C-USA the way he does. Is it possible that UK fans can get a free pass for at last a couple of weeks to let the knee-jerk reaction calm down. I am sure even then you will have plently to chuckle about!

Both bother me to be honest but I won't lose sleep over either! I do hate that some UK fans give the rest of us a bad name.

I think "calling them out" is a waste of your time and simply gives them more reasons to go on doing the same things. It's that simple. You are helping the monster grow and perform at a faster rate.

 

And I'm not worried about your in game comments. I very rarely visit those threads anyways. I know what I've seen recently, and it's exactly what I said it was. I never meant to say you were taunting all UK fans, because obviously all UK fans aren't in the "18%".

 

I'm not even sure why I'm arguing about this. I don't really care either way. I guess I'm with 5w.
