I was listening to Doug Gottleib on ESPNRadio on my way to night class tonight and Gottleib mentioned two former Calipari assistants being the leading Canidates for the vacant Memphis Coaching Position.

 

UTEP's Tony Barbee and Lamar's Steve Roccaforte were mentioned. Does Memphis pursue these two men, or go outside Cal's coaching family?

Personally, I hope Memphis considers looking at the NBA ranks again. If they get an up and coming college coach, and he does well, they will lose him in a couple of years. Calipari could draw NBA caliber players because he had been there and convinced them he could help them to get there. Memphis does not have the benefit of a strong conference affiliation, so they have to be unconventional if they want to stay anywhere near where they have been the last few years.

I think Texas A&M did a great job with getting Turgeon, perhaps they go the up-and-comer route. Whoever it is, I wish them luck in trying sustain Memphis' run of success. :thumb:

They may look at Turgeon. If they did go that route, I'd bet the farm that A&M would go straight for BCG. AGAIN! The fans in College Station LOVE Gillispie.

On a side note Big Spikes, I stopped listening to Gottleib once he slammed Eastern Kentucky on this broadcast. That was sickening. I wonder how many times he has ever been to Pike County., Elliott County., Johnson County, Ashland and the like?

I think an up and comer NBA coach like Johnson would be a better psychological fit. Other than that, good question....I will have to make my list. :lol:

For the sake of Memphis, I really hope they are able to get a great coach in there to keep the tradition strong. I had become somewhat a Memphis fan.

 

My best friend is a huge Memphis fan and he is bummed to no end. I hid my excitement in front of him yesterday, but you could tell he wanted to punch me a few times.

I really like the idea of Avery Johnson of being a good fit in Memphis. Up tempo, passionate coach
