So who takes the Memphis Job?

LCPATS...

You might not want to be so confident.

Memphis is going to pony up the cash for Pitino (both of them).

We'll see...

It's not like UofL doesn't have a lot to offer. Pitino has recruits lined up, new arena, and most of all, he's getting old. Oh yeah, and they could throw cash too, if it came to that.

Right...

And do they have a succession plan for Richard Pitino? I don't think so.

Memphis is offering that and much more money than Louisville will.

Like I said, Richard will be fine, he will have oppurtunities. How do you know "a succesion plan" for Richard is wanted? How do you know UofL can't offer what Memphis can? Pitino wouldn't go back to CUSA.

I was shocked to hear this rumor has legs. I got it 2nd had, but it is from someone that knows Pitino well and speaks to him on a regular basis...

Memphis's wish list

The article mentions Memphis contacting Pitino to gauge his interest, then says this:

Louisville’s sports information director, Kenny Klein, said Memphis had not contacted Louisville about speaking with Pitino.

And Kentucky hadn't contacted Memphis to talk to Calipari before negotiations were talked about either... :sssh:

True, just saying...

I would be shocked. I leave it at that. :isurrender:

I can confirm he is in fact thinking about it. Like I said, I was shocked when I got the info, but it is as rock solid as it can get...

I'm hearing Tim Floyd and Reggie Theus. Pearl is interesting...he might be ready to get out of the SEC now and already has the Tenn ties. Hearing Floyds name a lot but I don't think they will dig his style of play there. I wouldn't be suprised at all if it's Theus.

Here's Parrish's take on it...

I'm just going to ask why Pitino would take the job at Memphis.

Not saying he wouldn't. But I can't think of one reason why he would.

A boat load of money and having his son succeed both sound like good reasons.

It's still very surprising to me.

Read the thread. You'll see at least one, maybe two...

I just don't think C-USA is where he'd want to return to. I just absolutely can't see it. Plus, Richard is getting interest in his own right. He could be at Boston next year. Even if he didn't get the Boston job, I can think of a ton of reasons to wait for a better opportunity than a C-USA school who will likely be decimated by recruits following Callipari, current players leaving, and other recruits going elsewhere.
