April 2, 200917 yr Read the thread. You'll see at least one, maybe two... I read the thread. I still had the same question after I read it.
April 2, 200917 yr I just don't think C-USA is where he'd want to return to. I just absolutely can't see it. Plus, Richard is getting interest in his own right. He could be at Boston next year. Even if he didn't get the Boston job, I can think of a ton of reasons to wait for a better opportunity than a C-USA school who will likely be decimated by recruits following Callipari, current players leaving, and other recruits going elsewhere. IF Pitino went there maybe he could keep a recruit or 4.
April 2, 200917 yr A boat load of money and having his son succeed both sound like good reasons. It's still very surprising to me. Bigger than the Cal contract at UK is what I was told...
April 2, 200917 yr Bigger than the Cal contract at UK is what I was told... Of course it would be. Pitino has the right ego for the job and Memphis would be in serious jeopardy of being on Xavier and Gonzaga's level or below. Nothing wrong w/ that level, but when you play for a championship and are a 1 or 2 seed for 4 years running its not where you want to be. It actually makes too much sense. Side note XU is at a great level right now, but if Miller bolts they would need another great hire.
April 2, 200917 yr Seems like Pearl is picking up momentum... link The Memphis people are obviously having a hard time with Coach Cal's departure. But there was one thing mentioned in this column that I thought was funny yesterday. When Coach Cal talked about not recruiting a player that was disresepctul to his mother, I laughed when I heard him say that.... From the link: Speaking of which, did you catch that Calipari press conference in Kentucky? Did you hear the part where he said he wouldn't recruit a player who was disrespectful to his mother? I wish someone had known to ask the natural follow-up: "Then why did you recruit a player who burned a gang sign into a girl with a lit cigarette?"
April 4, 200917 yr Regie Theus and Avery Johnson are getting the most run right now... Where did Avery coach at before the Dallas Mavericks?
April 4, 200917 yr Nowhere. The Mavericks is his only job EVER? I know Mark Cuban wouldn't hire a rookie coach. He cares about his team way too much.
April 4, 200917 yr The Mavericks is his only job EVER? I know Mark Cuban wouldn't hire a rookie coach. He cares about his team way too much. After spending the 2003–2004 season playing with the Golden State Warriors, Johnson signed as a player-coach with the Dallas Mavericks under Don Nelson. Johnson had played under Nelson from 2001–2003, and it was understood from the beginning that Johnson was being groomed to eventually succeed Nelson as head coach. On October 28, 2004, Johnson retired from playing to concentrate full-time on coaching, and his transition from assistant to head coach came five months later on March 19, 2005. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avery_Johnson

April 5, 200917 yr Theus could step in there and do a good job, and maybe keep some recruits. He is an excellent recruiter.
April 5, 200917 yr I'm hearing Tim Floyd and Reggie Theus. Pearl is interesting...he might be ready to get out of the SEC now and already has the Tenn ties. Hearing Floyds name a lot but I don't think they will dig his style of play there. I wouldn't be suprised at all if it's Theus. I still think it will be Theus.
