Any changes in 10th Region coaching corners.....

First of all Coach Hinson would give his left arm to coach at the school where he played. If he was to apply they would look right over him!!!

Don't quite understand how you can say that. If you look at the teams he has actually been successful with you will find that they were all coached by other coaches for 2 or 3 years prior to him coaching them. If you ask most of the kids he has coached you will probably find very few who can say they learned anything from him. If he was that good, he would work on developing these kids as a team, not just working with 2 or 3 players. Middle school is where your fundamental work is the most important and it is not worked on in BC. If it was, our high school teams would be better!! BC needs to look elsewhere for a better candidate. One actually applied last year and was overlooked. Bracken's AD needs to wake up before she ruins BC basketball.

I really don't understand your statement either. BC just started 6th grade

basketball last year or maybe the year before. Most of the teams that

Coach P has had just started in 7th grade playing as a team. Now, a few

of the more recent teams have played together before 7th grade on their own, but his record has been good since he has started. The 8th grade

season last for maybe 3 or 4 months. I think Coach P gets all he can

out of his players in the short amount of time.

I have a question. Everyone is commenting on the middle school program at BC. I never understood why they play such a short season. I assume they still do don't they. They used to have to get it over before high school started playing, why I don't know. They should play all winter like the high school and give the kids more time to practice and improve.

What were the records of each this past season?

Last season's records at Bracken County:

Boys basketball: 9-20, lost to St. Patrick 5 times (and in their defense, beat them once)

Girls basketball: 13-10

Baseball: 5-16

Softball: 24-12

Football: 0-10

Volleyball: 17-11

I rest my case.

Middle School basketball plays around a one month schedule of games and practices one month before that, I believe, but not for sure. Season is usually over a couple of weeks before Christmas. When 3rd and 4th graders play more games than the Middle School, well that's a problem. But was always under the impression that the reason for the 8th grade not continuing to play tournaments, leagues, etc. on into January, February and March was that workouts, practice, etc. for the High School Lady Bears Softball team starts in the winter and seems to go year round. Does anyone know for sure?

I think one of the reasons why the middle school season is so short is because most are done by October 15th which is the start of the high school season and with the trend happening today, middle school kids are bumped up to either freshmen, jv and varsity.

Good point, BC did have a good freshman schedule this season, weekend league, etc.

I know Pendleton Co. plays all winter or at least through January and they have for years. They play schools in northern KY and some such as Grant and Williamstown. I think the way Bracken does is not good for their kids having such a short time to play.

I do think that BC's 7th grade has from time to time extended play into January by playing in tournaments, but have never heard of the 8th grade doing this, but as stated before, it may have to do with year round Lady Bears High School softball and coaches time spread too thin.

The main reason Bracken County middle school basketball is over so early is because they play in the Ohio River Conference. That conference concludes with the conference tournament which now ends before Christmas. The conference tournament used to be held the week after Christmas break. So when the conference ended the season ended. All games were played within about a two month period. Some of the reasoning behind this is to allow some 8th graders to join the high school program at the end of their season.

There are alot of reasons that conference starst and ends early. Most of the schools in the conference are small schools that need middle school players to compete and have enough players to play. Also parents sometimes have kids that play on high school team and middle school. This keeps from having a conflict. The schools that play in this conference are

Bracken County

Augusta

St. Patrick

Deming

Fleming County

Lakeside Christian
