Any changes in 10th Region coaching corners.....

Featured Replies

Pretty sure the 8th grade swept Mason last year for the first time in school history.

And that team was coached for years by Jamie Rigg. He taught those boys how to play ball. He taught them their fundamentals. By the time they were in 8th grade they were a good, solid team, not because of their 8th grade coach!!!

If thats the case they would have swept them before their 8th grade year. Nothing against coach Riggs because it sounds like he has done a great job with this group, but you still have to have a coach to win ballgames regardless of how good your players are.

Doesn't always take a good coach to win games with good players. Look at Tubby Smith's first year at UK! He won because somebody else did all the ground work for him.

So let me get this straight, it's up to the parents to start the feeder programs and over see them, not the head coach or administration. And the AD should not be held accountable for anything that goes wrong. Crazy me.

No, you didnt "get this straight", obviously.

Where did I say that the parents start the feeder program and oversee it? I just pointed out that its just as important for there to be a strong community effort backing these kids as there is to have a strong adminstrative team (AD, coaches, etc) in place at the high school level. Of course they should be accountable for the results of their programs....but it could be a no win situation before these kids get to HS. I dont know, I was posing a few thoughts on how things could be breaking down.

So you dont think Tubby Smith did a nice job with that team? Look at him now turning around a terrible Minnesota team! Someone has to be in charge, call plays, get the team to play with passion and effort!! Why is it hard for you to give a man some credit. Better yet, why do you feel it necessary to talk about a person who just works hard at all he does and gives the Bracken County school system everything he has??? If you think someone else deserves the job, great, who is it?? you??

Alot of posters on here complaining about the middle school program, to me, the head coach needs to be over it all and ran the way he wants so once they reach him at high school level no adjustments need to be made. Out of the last three coaches, none showed any intrest in the lower grades, to me thats the first sign that they don't plan on being here very long. Lastly, lets not forget who hired a coach with zero experiance at any level. He was doomed from the start.

I disagree with part of this, Coach Hammons started doing a summer camp for the younger kids and was at several of the middle school games and took interest in several of the younger ball players, as did Coach Fite. Not sure about Breeze, don't think he was there long enough to see. If you asked Coach Hammons I think you would find he enjoyed working with younger kids more so than the older group. As for Coach Fite, I personally thought he also showed a lot of interest in the younger players and enjoyed teaching both on and off the court. I don't believe that the varsity coach has any say in the middle school program, although some of their plays may be used. I'm not trying to bash anyone, just stating what I see and I've been watching for quite some time.

Take a peek at who is in Bracken's middle school conference and you'll see why he is successful.

The teams in the middle school conference are the same teams(St. Pat,Augusta, Fleming Co. Deming, Nicholas Co. and some years Mason Co.) that the high school plays every year! Try again!!:D

First of all, I believe if you check the high school schedule you'll see that there are alot more teams on there than that. Second, I'm not going to argue with you. From everything I've heard, site base was really pulling for Persinger last year and it looks and sounds like that is who YOU want again this year. I'm just saying I don't believe he would be much better than last years coach. I've also heard this from parents who have had kids play for him, even from parents who had kids that were his starters from previous years!!!

When are people ever going to figure basketball out.. I hear all of you Bracken Co. folks trying to blame and give credit to various different people. It is all about the feeder program and where would Bracken be if an interested parent (Riggs) hadn't taken an interest in those kids?

Okay I am going to take a slightly different slant here. In order for the community to be able to generate excitement first the school (led by its adminsitration) must generate a welcoming feeling for parents and the community. This is where things fall apart in Bracken starting with the board office administration and working its way through school administration. (Hence the pitiful state of the football program). Attitudes must be changed and people need to feel like they are valued and a part of something for anything to change. Sorry if I offend but I am just offering up what I see.

I will also say several years ago we were moving in the right direction.........particularly academically and athletically. Now that those individual(s) are gone and have been for several years we are stagnate and moving backwards in both areas.

You are way off line here, but it is ok, you have your opinion!!! :ohbrother:

Everyone has their own oponion and I have my own . Yes."I" think Coach Persinger should be given the chance to coach the high school. Every program that he has been involved with has been successful even though every player or Parent may not have been happy about their playing time Coach Persinger did what he thought was best for the TEAM. He has lived in this community his entire life, so I do not believe he will be using BC has a stepping stone. He has high school experience(assist. Varsity and JV) . Bracken Co. needs a head coach that everyone can be proud of and someone that the players can look up too and RESPECT. If he can build the boys basketball program into something close to what he has done with the girls softball program then we will all take PRIDE in a successful basketball program.

If you have someone else in mind that meets all of those qualifications then you can have your opinion too, but that is just my opinion!!!

That is a big 'IF.' girl's softball translating to Varsity Basketball. Wow!!!

I have to agree with Preachit on this. Mild success at softball does not translate into success at the varsity basketball level. However...........he has coached basketball in the past but I am not sure how successful he has been. He was a JV coach for a little bit in the boys program under Coach Fisher and from what I can gather he would not support Persinger as a varsity head coach.
